We currently have a chev. traverse. It's too big for Marion to open or close the doors, get into or get out of, she picked it out but now she hates it. So, anyway, and anyhow, I'm thinking about getting a Honda CRV, a Toyota Rav4, or a Subaru Outback. Reg or Hybrid? Subaru doesn't make a Hybrid. Your thoughts on this matter, please.

I have never owned any of those but know several people who have. All three are bulletproof and will last for the long haul. Kind of personal preference and local dealership reputation.

Why not stay with USA made? GMC makes the Acadia and Chevy makes the equonox, my wife is driving an Acadia now and loves it

We are on our third Toyota hybrid. Two Prius and a Lexus version. Over 300k miles total. Great cars and resale is good also.

I have had a Honda CRV, two Honda Accords a Toyota FJ Cruiser and a Mazda CX-5. All were great vehicles, one Honda with over 400K on the clock. I like the CX-5 the best, (160k so far) no problems and it is fun to drive.

My wife had a Prius that was a very good car. Ran great, always started, and got 45 mpg on the hwy. only had to change the headlight bulb on each side on time. She traded it in because of rust around the top of the windshield. She took a Mercedes CLA 250 in trade. She can’t drive it around the block without having some sensor light come on! She got angry with me because I called it a POS. I quit calling it bad names, now she’s the one that’s calling it a POS! Warning! Stay as far away as you can from Mercedes

Too funny! My elderly Mom in Oregon let my younger Brother talk her and Step- Dad into buying a brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD in 2015, 2 years ago she offered and we bought it out what they owed, $13,000 and change, I drove it home from Oregon with 14,300 ! Today shes paid and now unfortunately has 67,000 or more miles now but never have had an issue ,24-25 MPG , enjoy the ride anywhere!

All the Oregonian youngsters been making them a fad. For about 20. When the timing belt breaks the engine is destroyed. Look up how many Suburu’s were sold in US in 1972…. 1999… 2002. Google will provide the information just fine.

That’s Oregon.

If anyone gets good mileage with RAV your lucky. The biggest complaint is usually mileage. Suburu are quite a fad. Don’t ever forget to do everything ( not an option ) that is recommended on the maintenance of Suburu’s. The engine is completely different than the rest of the cars mentioned. Boxer type engines in Suburu’s have all different torque specifications for the head/cylinder bolts. Many are for sale at 80,000 miles but buyer beware.

They’ve also got an interference engine, if a timing belt breaks, they’re toast.

Hondas are every bit as good as Toyotas, but more reasonably priced. The hidden truth regarding hybrids is that the hybrid battery will eventually need replacing, and that is wicked expensive. Another hidden truth about those batteries and EVs is that the elements needed to produce them require massive mining, millions of tons of waste, and in the case of some of those elements, given their source, child labor with no real laws concerning their safety. They are not the earth saving panacea they are being touted as.

Not to memtiom the fact that the majority of the electricity used to chatge them is generated by fossil fuels anyway. Burning 1 gallon of fuel to generate electricity DOES NOT produce 1 gallon of fuel eqivalent in driving distance. Thete are losses coverting the fuel to steam, more losses covetting steam to electricity, more losses in transmitting the electricity to your house. Not to mention the lack of generating capacity amd lack of chatging stations.

Multiple prius owner correction and agreements. The hybrid Prius has a gas engine. All battery charging is done by capturing braking energy, over acceleration, coasting, and engine charging to protect battery from being depleted. 100k warranty will protect owner from a battery defect. I had one replaced at 76k at no charge. The batteries last over 200k done that twice. Purchase price was $20k in 2007 and $25k in 2014. 45 mpg average overall for 400k. Used as business sales vehicle. Traded one for $5k and the other for $10k on the Lexus hybrid CT100H. Yes, battery manufacturing is bad for the environment. They use nickel metal hydride chemistry not lithium which I think is worse and has had problems in some toys, laptops, phones, and planes. Batteries in cars are a bad deal, but the government is making that happen no matter what you want. The other materials that make a Prius are very recyclable. Gas savings make up for a lot of the negatives. 0 to 12 mph acceleration is great, front wheel peel out if you want to be a teenager. Very quiet if you want to sneak up on you fishing hole. Won’t tow darn thing.

Analysts: Check out hybrid technology.
It could be one of the best answers. Not necessarily a Prius.
