nice bass, way to go.....
I have a place on S. end lake , weekends are crazy these days . I found a few big ones and they are just starting to develop eggs . I dissected one we keep to eat ( first time in 30 years ) for my Chef son. overlies we swollen and just two immature eggs . Fish were in 6 -10 feet hitting speed worms . No cover shallow looks like a moon scape . Bank beaters had a hard time and wind was insane . Two boats sank during College Tournament . Five Fingers area and open water spots were a no go unless you were demented . J.Hersch
That is what happens when you keep at it. Good looking fish, congrats.
Just a beautiful fish 👏👏👏

Fished Rayburn the 18th through the 20th. I am never fishing a weekend there again. I ve always fished during the week mostly for the past 25 years. Seems like the idiots really come out on the weekends with all the tournaments and such going on. Getting worse. Anyway. Went to Jackson Hill Marina for a few days. Spent Friday trying to figure what to / how to fish. Narrowed it down to cranks and soft swimbaits like Keitech fats / owner flashy swimmer type hardware. Wind was projected 11 mph, was actually 20 + . Lots of 2-3 foot swells / white caps across the lake . Nitro got slammed...lol....Saturday was mainly buck bass to about 1.5 pounds . Caught 22 total in water from 2 ft to 12 ft. Wind had laid down. Much better fishing..... Sunday was a little better dialed in. Moved off shore to 18- 20 ft , no wind, fishing in Caney creek. Years ago that area was a small community . The formation of the lake submerged a lot of the old house foundations. Mapped an area in caney where the creek intersected an old road close to an old house foundation, 18 ft down. Boom. That’s where my son Andy caught the biggest fish of the trip. A nice 7 pound female . Deep crankbait . I told him it’s his lucky fishing rod that got it for him. ( rod was brand new last fall and he caught an 8-6 after 9-10 casts with it) . We caught several more decent fish in the 3 - 4 # range, all deeper than 12 ft. We also were STILL catching bucks in deeper water too. They were everywhere. Water temp was high 50s . The big girls haven’t moved in to spawn yet as far as I could tell. Maybe next week . Nobody I talked to had caught fish with any size to them.......My 2cents...
Fished Rayburn the 18th through the 20th. I am nev... (

Heck of a trip Chuck. Congratulations to your son for that beauty. I used to fish Rayburn a lot. I pulled some nice Bass and Crappie out of there. My parents had a place there near Hanks Creek Marina. I don’t know if it’s still there. Anyway, congrats.

That one looks heavier than 7 lbs. Nice catch, I reckon your right about your son's gear. Both of you can enjoy the fun and experiences in your future outings. A real father so bonding.

I didn’t hear about the 2 boats sinking. Had to be Friday? I knew about the high school kid tournament, I think they launched from Cassels Boykin. The Bass Media tournament was out of Jackson Hill......yeah, the lake being almost 4 ft. low kinda messed things up. We usually fish five fingers , Coleman , sandy, farmers, etc. I was against going the week- end, but my son talked me into it because of the full moon. Lol. We caught a bunch of of bass, but the majority were bucks. Glad you found a few big ones...My 2cents.

I thought it was bigger at first too. But when I weighed it, she was 7 pounds even. Checked it with my back up scale , it read 7-1. So , that was it. Yeah me and Andy have a good time. We’ve been fishing together for years, and I haven’t pushed him overboard yet.....My 2cents...

Thanks mr hacksaw, yeah the wind/ water Friday was pretty bad. But the weather and fishing got better each day. Unfortunately the idiots didn’t. I ain’t going on a week-end again . Pretty much never....
Strange year compared to last year for sure ( high water record). Last year I caught large fish very shallow UNTILL August . Lack of shallow grass and pitching into trees was ticket last year. I find this year the lake fishing very different . Shallow but not a preponderance of bedding fish ., deep water being relative near shallow water even with no apparent cover . Old 7 inch cut tail Yamamoto worms , speed worms , whacky senkos , Carolina rigged all work. Yamamoto has been sold and haveing trouble getting the colors I like ( to bad , they had great colors ) FieldMarshall
