Fished Rayburn the 18th through the 20th. I am never fishing a weekend there again. I ve always fished during the week mostly for the past 25 years. Seems like the idiots really come out on the weekends with all the tournaments and such going on. Getting worse. Anyway. Went to Jackson Hill Marina for a few days. Spent Friday trying to figure what to / how to fish. Narrowed it down to cranks and soft swimbaits like Keitech fats / owner flashy swimmer type hardware. Wind was projected 11 mph, was actually 20 + . Lots of 2-3 foot swells / white caps across the lake . Nitro got slammed...lol....Saturday was mainly buck bass to about 1.5 pounds . Caught 22 total in water from 2 ft to 12 ft. Wind had laid down. Much better fishing..... Sunday was a little better dialed in. Moved off shore to 18- 20 ft , no wind, fishing in Caney creek. Years ago that area was a small community . The formation of the lake submerged a lot of the old house foundations. Mapped an area in caney where the creek intersected an old road close to an old house foundation, 18 ft down. Boom. That’s where my son Andy caught the biggest fish of the trip. A nice 7 pound female . Deep crankbait . I told him it’s his lucky fishing rod that got it for him. ( rod was brand new last fall and he caught an 8-6 after 9-10 casts with it) . We caught several more decent fish in the 3 - 4 # range, all deeper than 12 ft. We also were STILL catching bucks in deeper water too. They were everywhere. Water temp was high 50s . The big girls haven’t moved in to spawn yet as far as I could tell. Maybe next week . Nobody I talked to had caught fish with any size to them.......My 2cents...

Nice fish and report. Looks like it calmed down for you. Weekday fishing is definitely the way to go especially now that everything is opened up. How did the fish look other than the hog in the photo? We’re they healthy looking, fat or skinny?
Chuck56: Sounds to me like you stuck it out and came home a winner. Persevered and caught a lot of fish, along with some nice sized ones. Good on you. Just Sayin...RJS

Congrats! Good looking fish.
Good looking fish. That weekend stuff is for the birds. I try to stay away and let the race boats have at it then go on a week day
Remember the rule, go as often as you can, stay as long as you can!
Remember the French ship LaBelle that was sunk in Matagorda Bay? It had been there since the 1700's and had a body discovered on board when they pumped all the water out. He probably was a fisherman and trying to make just one more cast. Just Sayin...RJS

Thanks. Fish were all fat. They had been eating shad. All our catches were made with shad pattern crankbaits and shad pattern swimbaits. Nothing on crawfish pattern cranks or any plastic worm type baits...
Very nice fish. Congratulations
