OK. Let's all agree that it's a reel stand. Well, that's what they call it. And the purpose of it being made of metal is to balance the reel. Makes sense to me. So like I said, it doesn't appear to come off easily. You suppose Shimano made a left hand reel with the crank and the stand reversed?

Except for old Mitchell's, nearly every spinning reel I've ever seen was, ambidextrous. That one probably is too. You can get reel schematics online for any reel. Download one for that model and see what it says.

I haven't been able to find anything but a parts list in Japanese. I emailed Shimano and asked their customer service people where I might be able to get an owner's manual. Here's what they said.

"We do not have manuals for any reels Paul, I do apologize. You may be able to find that information on online forums, we no longer have information on reels that old.

Best regards, "

Well, this is an online forum, so which one of you summer beeches has my manual?

When I worked in repair/calibration for Hewlett Packard I had access to the manuals for every piece of electronic equipment they had manufactured since about 1940. Unbelievable.

80 meters of 8# fluoro, that's the max printed on the spool. 20 pound braid will sit right on there no problem.
Can somebody tell me what's up with the side opposite the crank? What is that? What's its purpose? I've never seen that on a reel, or a reel like that.

Don't know what it is but looks like it could get hung up on things

The thing on the other side or the reel? Could it be just a cover that you swap to the other side if you move your handle to that side? Most spincast reals allow you the swap handle from one side to the other. Just a guess,I dunno really

Thank goodness we all agree it is a reel stand cuz you know how them Japanese like their phallic symbolism.
I was about to suggest it could be a BUTT plug or something along those lines.
Also you could have tried saying, "I was wanting to purchase an owners manual and accessories catalog". Not that you would purchase either but more to peak their interest.
Have you tried talking with the seller for an owners guide? Maybe that's who you contacted. Also, any chance your Rod and Reel maintenance dude might have access to such materials being he is a vendor/or rep?

One thing I did like about the reel stand was being able to hook your treble hook lures on it for when you are moving to a new spot to target.

In fact. Several ideas come to mind how it could double as a "Third Hand" for all sorts of things. I remember the days of using the bail as a hook/lure holder while walking along the bank for a better spot. It might even come handy for knot tying or even a roach clip.

Keep us posted.

That accessory is not from Shimano all the pictures I've seen of the Stella reels don't have it on them. Stella reels at Bass Pro start at $899.99and it looks like you have a shallow aftermarket spool if your going to put any amount of line on it I would suggest buying some cheap mono in the same diameter of the line that you want to use and we how much the reel holds before you buy the expensive line. Good Luck! beautiful reel πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸŽ£πŸ˜€πŸ‘ps if that's the case with the spool maybe the old owner has the original and you can also find out about the added on attachment and if he happens to have the manual

Apparently Spirit, the model 2500S, was made and sold for the Japanese market only, that's why all the available schematics and paperwork in only in Japanese. If you look at the schematic, at the bottom of the picture, there's a part that looks like the shaft, and its not connected to the drawing, like the rest of the parts. #141 If you can find someone to read the Japanese description, you can find out if thats it.

This what the "aftermarket" spool has printed on it. I don't believe it's aftermarket. Do you mean that you think it's counterfeit? I'd believe that before I'd believe aftermarket.

I didn't look at it closely Charly, I think you're correct. Its a mirror image, so its probably opposite thread direction, to be used for putting the handle on the other side. The mystery continues.

Your spool looks just like the one in the parts list Spirit, it's just a shallow, long cast type spool.
Seeing the other shaft up close, makes it look like an adapter for an electric motor, or something. Not just a stand to lean against.
