My neighbor has a swimming pool that's nearly 40'x60'. Maybe we should stop joking about "using the cement pond"...and just stock it ! LOL !
Sorry, I'm from a Kansas ranching family. Our tiny ponds are 1-3... ACRES. Good-sized ones are 5-10+acres. Get someone knowledgeable to evaluate your pond, I'm quite certain that they will NOT recommend pet store species. Most confident that "fatheads and rubyreds" won't really provide any true angling stories....do they make a 0-wt fly rod and reel ?
No.... but he does have a daughter that could pass for Ellie Mae !
Have a fishing buddy has a pregnant brown lab Ellie Mae.
Her babies daddy is the bobber watching black lab.
not sure about your area but here in md your local southern states has a truck that comes a couple times a year that you can buy fish and stock your pond
The internet is your friend google it.
I think the fatheads and rubyreds are for bait ! Duh!
Don’t bother with Rosie reds the fish will eat them instantly right in front of your eyes Shiners and fat heads are good
In most of the county's in Alabama you can just go to the local co-op and order the kind and size fish you want to stock with. I my catfish pond I just ordered bream an catfish an the put tolopa in it once a year for bait. Did same thing in my bass pond just didn't put any catfish in it. Put feeders on both an feed them game fish feed 10 months out of the year. Need to make sure the bloom an pH levels are right. I have to lime and fertilize mine once a year also
Fatheads and golden shiners are the forage fish in my tiny pond along with the constantly breeding bluegills. Some people overthink this stocking business. As long as you stick with bass sunfish and channel cats you really can’t go wrong. Now that’s all assuming your water quality is good and oxygen levels can maintain the the amount fish present. I had to install a sump pump type fountain set on a timer to run four hours a day to keep the oxygen levels up. That is why you sometimes see ponds with only frogs and turtles.
Also might want to make sure your pond doesn’t have snapping turtles. 2 years ago l walked around my pond to check the bass nests during breeding time. All the bass guarding the nests had large white bruises on their heads. Came back at night with a flash lite and spotted a 25 pound snapper harassing the fish.
