Loved to read other great stories and wanted to share mine. Remembering stories of when we were young stay with us for a lifetime. So here goes, on the 4th of July we arrived at Five Island Lake early to get a good spot for the fireworks. Still light out my sisters and I played in the park buy the lake . The small Creek that ran into the lake had a footbridge over it ,we could see bluegill fish swimming right under the bridge. We had not come to fish , with no rod or reels, we were bummed. Dad had an idea. His spare tackle box was still in the
trunk not muck in it but line and hooks . We found a small stick and were excited but no worms but we had red licorice . what a great time we had catch and release was learned that day. Emmetsburg Iowa in the 60s .
Nice story, funny what a Dad can come up with to keep the kids busy.
Thanks for sharing!

Good mornin', Byron, and welcome to the Forum. We are glad to have you on board.
My dad, uncle, his 2 boys, my brother and I were fishing off the central street bridge catching carp like crazy. My uncle was drinking beer and was drunker than a skunk. He asked us boys to get him another bottle of beer. Each one of us put a worm in his beer and he downed that beer and didn’t have a clue about them worms. We laughed all night about that and my dad never did figure out why we were laughing! A black couple fishing down on the bank wasn’t catching anything and about midnight they came up and started fishing right next to us, we were reeling them in like crazy while they were just spectators. We got ready to leave and asked them if they wanted the fish, he said no and she said yes. She told him to go get the car and he didn’t want to, she like bite his head off then he went and got the car. It was a brand new caddy and he put like 200-300 pounds of fish in the trunk cussing like crazy. I bet he never got the fish smell out of that car! That was a fun night!

Nice story Bryon. Memory's last forever.
I have a story on a crazy fishing experience that happened to me a long time ago
My son is 32 now he was 6 at the time this happened
A place I used to go before my boats anyway even now when I tell this story my son still laugh’s his behind off
I was tossing a crankbait in this canal the place where I was standing was really muddy I had one foot on a rock and one foot on a edge of a concrete pipe
On the first cast I hooked a bass right at the edge of the pipe like 2 feet from where my foot was
It came off right away
After a few more casts I change bait to a smaller lure but same pattern same thing happened like the first cast
I set the hook so hard I slipped and fell in the mud
I was yelling to my son to give me the net he was holding but he was laughing so much at me flapping around in the mud
Anyway I did managed to land the fish 🐠
It was about 2 and half pounds but I was completely covered in mud it was everywhere and I mean everything was covered
Well that’s my most memorable fishing experience

I can see why your son still laughs at that story. Pretty funny. That's why God gave us a sense of humor.
I was with my party fishing off shore from Matzalan, Mexico. My co-worker had caught a large striped marlin and landed it in perhaps 10 minutes.
Then I was my turn. I hooked another and it was a real fighter, lots of jumps, bird dog hops, and then when it was up along side the boat, the captain would suddenly reverse one engine and jump the boat sidewise away from the fish. i was in the fighting chair and could not see why he was doing such antics. This happened several times before the mate brought the fish aboard.
It was stretched out all the way across the bottom of the boat, perhaps 7 feet long. I notice the leader passed through the fish's mouth. I reached down to check were the hook was, and the leader after passing through the fishs mouth, had the hook and leader all the way back and just hung in the far side gill cover. If the fish had ever turned the opposite way, it would have come unhooked! Just Sayin...RJS
Back in the early 1950's, my Dad went out on a charter off Southern California. On the way out, they set up a pool. Dad reeled in the first fish, but they were all teasing him for catching a "baby black sea bass" (it was a nice big fish, but these get really big). Well, at the end of the day his 'baby' black sea bass won the pool for largest fish and Dad won enough to pay for his trip!

I took my dad deep sea fishing out of San Diago in 93. He was always lucky, me not so much. There was 18 guys on board including us and we all kicked in $10. The pot was to be split with the most caught and biggest fish. He caught the most (5) and biggest a 30# yellowtail tuna and won both. Me all I got was a snapped line. I’ve always said he could catch a 10# bass in a Walmart parking lot.
