Out fishing on day, my buddy went to cast his rapala and it caught him right in his head, treble buried deep! He went to ER to have it extracted and told the story to the Dr about when it happened down on the Susquehanna Flats fishing for Stripers. The Dr told him how weird it sounded becathere was another guy, fishing the same flats and the same thing happened to him about 10 years ago and he extracted that guys lure… my buddy laughed and told the Dr, “yeah, that was my brother!”
True story!
Back in the early 50s my parents took a family trip out west. One day we stopped for an overnight stay some place in Wyoming, don't recall exactly where. There was a river not far from the motel we were at so I took a walk because there was a bunch of people lined up on the bridge over the river. When I got there I asked someone what was going on. The hatchery truck had just dumped a load of trout and everyone was getting in on the action. It was a narrow bridge with no sidewalks so traffic was passing very close to those fishing. I watched for a while until I watched a boy about 12 making a cast with a bait casting reel. On his back cast he hooked the bumper of a passing car (back then cars had real bumpers). As the car sped off his reel got spooled and when it reached the end it jerked the rod out of his hands. As it bounced down the road his dad, who was fishing next to him, started reading him the riot act. Felt so bad for the kid I went back to the motel. Never forgot the look of horror on that boys face.
