Which hand do you reel with?

Larry, I can do the same right or left-handed with my bait caster, or my spinning reels. That does not make me special, nor a better fisherman. But notice the side skip can only be done on the side of the opposite side of the hand holding the rod. He learned how to do that, same as the people that learned how to do it with their left hand. And just like learning to cast with your left is just what you do, that is what I did. There is no right or wrong way, just the way you feel comfortable using the reel.

This is how I cast with a bait caster.
Left hand is on the butt of the pole and my right thumb is on the spool to control its spinning while casting with the pole over my right shoulder. When the lure hits the water and at the same time I use my thumb to stop the spool from spinning then throw the reel in gear with my right thumb. I then proceed to move my left hand from the butt of the pole to in front of the reel and and have the rod on my left side. Is this considered switching sides? IDK.
Spinning reels cast from right side and reel with my left hand.
Bait caster or spinning reel both feels natural and comfortable for me while reeling. No right or wrong way it’s just your personal preference.
Been doing it this way for 70 plus years now.

Cast with my strong arm (aka right arm) reel with my left in either bait caster or spinning. Salt water I will reverse that. Left arm holds the rod. Right does the pull and reel.

I like to reel in with my right hand even though I am very dominantly left handed. I like the pole in my left hand as I reel. My dominant hand on the pole lets me fight the fish better as I am more coordinated and strong with that arm. My first reel was a Mitchell 300 as a six year old. My Dad was also left handed. He said they got it backwards. I got you a reel so you can reel with your right hand and fight the fish with your left. That is what is natural to me. I am with him. Eveyone has their own style, though, so do what works for you as an individual.

Fred, that looks like an old Quick. They made a darn nice spinning reel but such a shame it’s being used upside down.

I think it might be BK, I can't read the nameplate, and I haven't seen one in many years. Wasn't the original name D.a.m.Quick ,when they imported them from Germany? My buddy sent me the meme, I thought it was cute.

Left handed, cast with left hand reel with right hand never switch hands for reeling or casting....faster easier more powerfull

Last time I tried casting right handed I threw my pole in the river.. As far as I'm concerned, Right arm is just for decorations for me..
