I have said this before. Pawn shops and flea markets. You just keep visiting. Cheap. Sometimes I make an offer for all they have. It might be 6 wood rapalas. Get them for $12 bucks and put new hooks on them. One time it was an old metal tackle box full assorted tackle for $10. Don’t know how it got there, but glad it was saved from a landfill. I haven’t bought any equipment at them yet except for a $6 ugly stick spinning rod from a Goodwill.
It’s great to have alternate gear for the visitor that never fished before.

Jwid, your reference to the landfill just reminded me of something. My buddy went to the local dump to dispose of some trash, and saw a couple big Plano tackle boxes by the office door. He asked the attendant what the story was, and the guy told him an elderly woman dropped them off. He said he didn't want to crush them, and if my buddy was interested, he could have them. He brought them home and they were full of older, but very good condition, lures of all types. If you know anyone at your local landfill, ask them to keep an eye out for you. You never know.

Wow, nice find Mr. Fish. Had a garbage man next door, that’s what they were called in the seventies, never knew what he’d bring home. I have cleaned old lures, spray painted gloss white and used colored sharpies, new hooks and Bass on!

Hello and Happy New Year to everyone reading this. I hope you have a good year of reeling them in. I was wondering what other people think of certain lure prices. One of the hottest lures the last few years is the chatterbaits. When I see them selling for as much as $15.00 or more I shake my head. All they are is a Jig with a metal plate. Does it cost that much to produce them that justifies the price? I understand inflation but still. Maybe it is me being cheap. I certainly have spent way too much money over the years, so it is not like I have never opened my wallet. A lot of people who see all my rods, reels and lures think I have spent way too much for what is necessary. Am I wrong about this lure and some others? I know if you look around there are still lots of good lures to be had that catch fish and are more reasonably priced.

It's not so much "supply and demand" economics these days as it is "inflation economics". With the gov't printing UNLIMITED amounts of dollars these days, it's certain to make all the previously printed dollars worth less and less. And that's been going on since 1913 when the US Gov't ceded its monetary responsibilities to the Federal Reserve Board, which has since presided over the decline of the purchasing power of the dollar by over 98%. It's the same lure it was 15 or 20 years ago, nothing about it has changed, except the dollar you use to buy it is no longer worth anything.

Ain't that the truth. Dollar isn't worth wiping your back side with.

Hey Grizzly. I remember about 15 years ago going to Dicks fishing department and at the end of an aisle was a cardboard barrel and was full of no name lures from some company in Illinois. I guess they imported them from China and the price was like $1.50 each. Of course, most guys avoided them, but a buddy and I thought that a few of them looked promising so we bought a few. Sometime later we were walleye fishing and while I had on a Rapala he had one of the cheap ones on. We ran into a school of walleye and in 30 minutes we caught 7. I caught 4 nice ones that were 18 inches but his 3 were 21 inches! The fish do not care how much a lure cost. Went back to Dicks and the barrel was gone. Wrote to the company and the letter came back stamped " address unknown." I wish I could have looked in that barrel again!
