Hello and Happy New Year to everyone reading this. I hope you have a good year of reeling them in. I was wondering what other people think of certain lure prices. One of the hottest lures the last few years is the chatterbaits. When I see them selling for as much as $15.00 or more I shake my head. All they are is a Jig with a metal plate. Does it cost that much to produce them that justifies the price? I understand inflation but still. Maybe it is me being cheap. I certainly have spent way too much money over the years, so it is not like I have never opened my wallet. A lot of people who see all my rods, reels and lures think I have spent way too much for what is necessary. Am I wrong about this lure and some others? I know if you look around there are still lots of good lures to be had that catch fish and are more reasonably priced.

I make my own tube jigs. Costs me around $3.00 to make 100 of em. If you buy them they are around $5.00 for 8. I’m pretty sure, all costs included, mass manufacturers are making them cheaper than I do. My guess is, like all things, manufactures can make them for about 1/3 the cost of making them yourself due to mass quantities. There’s a $4.82 profit in the end for an 8 pack of tube jigs from a store. I’ll bet that same profit holds true with most things. 482%. It’s what makes the world for around and around and around and around. Kinda like water down the drain so to speak and now we’re seeing the results of swirling process. Not long before everything goes down the drain right? I make my own salmon and steelhead spinners for about $.40 apiece. They’re $6.00 at the store and I catch just as many salmon and steelhead as anyone else.

I also make a lot of my own jigs, spinners and of course flys. Actually I think making your own stuff not only helps save maney but I find it extends my fishing season when I choose not to go outside in the snow or rain to actually fish or when the season is closed, and there is something satisfying about catching fish on something you made yourself vs bought off the shelf somewhere.

KSF, I believe you may be looking at their Jackhammer version of the Chatterbaits? Their original versions are still about $3. I think the Jackhammer is just a heavier version to run deeper. Not justifiable to pay the new price in my mind, anyway.

It’s supply and demand. The more popular a lure becomes, the higher the price goes. People talk about how good it works,so everyone has to have one. Everyone wants it,so they jack up the price because they know people are gonna buy them for convenience. Too lazy to take a little time and save a lot of money

Even Z-MAN said originals were the best for catching fish they have been around for a while all kinds of new" Chatterbait" on the market different blade size etc etc to pay 15 $ for a chunk of lead a hook and a blade way cheaper making your own all the parts are available all you do is take I little time and put it together But I think were talking money and there are swimbaits out that are in the hundreds. to the thousands you can still catch fish with a hand line a bobber hook and some kinda live bait ( worms etc ) now a days you have to take out an insurance policy on your tacklebox👊😀👌and a HAPPY NEW YEAR to you also Andy🎣

It's like everything else in life. If people are willing to pay the piper they'll keep
piping. Look what people py for a cup of coffee at the fancy shops or a glass of wine. Drink it it's gone. With a lure you may get to enjoy it more than once. I also make my own tube jigs swim jigs ball head jigs Wait till they ban lead for hunting n fishing. 🤯

In Massachusetts you can't use lead stinkers in inland waters I'm still trying to find out what the story is with jigs and all the other lead baits out there ( Chatterbait swim baits etc )
