There are ways to make this rig surprisingly tangle free

spider hitch. Doesn't tangle, super strong and super easy to tie.

This is my favourite way to tie knots for it.
https://youtu.be/o5P1NPg4JRU Very good for high-low rigs to have bait at different heights in the water column. Small tip: I cut a cardboard roll like the ones inside paper towel rolls to size and wrap the rig around, hooking the hooks into the roll (pool noodles work great if you have the space) to avoid the rigs I tie at home from tangling.

Use dropper loops and cut the loops open or buy sabiki rigs for really cheap

You can use a dropper loop knot, but I use this set up surf fishing. I found an easier way.
Tie a simple overhand knot where want a hook, take a leader hook combo with a loop tied on the end, slip the loop thru the open overhand knot, a slid the hook thru the loop, and tighten, than cinch down the overhand knot. This works because the looped leader won't allow the overhand knot to close completely, its also 100% main line strength, since there isn't a closed knot in the system. I could have put together a dozen rigs in the time I took to write this....Good Luck

Been tying that knot for 30 years and never knew its name (Dropper Loop). Learned it fishing on a head boat out of Charleston S.C. I also put a snap swivel on the end of it.
In Fla. we call this kind of tackle "chicken rigs". (And I don't know why???)
Use near reefs, wrecks or other underwater structure while fishing from a boat. let the weighted rig just off the bottom baited with squid, cut bunker or shrimp. Other cut baits will work too.
Good old fashioned chicken rig can be made easily with overhand knots. Here in Florida we shy away from hardware and always use florocarben leader.
I would use 3 dropper loops. Easy and fast
dropper loop is a great knot but my old fingers find it tough to tie. I get good results with the double surgeons loop.
