Fished a golf club pond. Always with a rake so they’d think I worked there…..they did
Walked up river past a couple making love. Said good afternoon and tipped my hat to the “lady” as I walked by.

I hired a boat in Danang and four of us went off shore fishing with a local national fisherman. We had three rods (that's all that then Special Services had now called MWR) and 4 M-16s. At no time was at least one of the Americans not armed. Caught a few bluegill sized fish and drank a lot of 33, the local beer. It wasn't the smartest move.

I am asking this question because in the past I have done some crazy things just to see if I could fish 🎣 a particular place for example I ran ropes down a cliff to a area to fish I fell off a cliff and got hurt luckily I wasn’t hurt bad and even now there is a place I want to fish but the said I’m crazy because it’s dangerous and of course she don’t want me hurt so I’m putting this out there too all what are some of your crazy adventures just to find fish

When I was young & bulletproof (before I went on my senior trip & learned different) my cousin & I would take our belly boats onto private ponds that were were off limits to public fishing. We did this at night with no lights as snakes are drawn to lights & we didn't want to tangle with cottonheaded rattlemoccasins in the dark. We'll never know how close we came to bad encounters but I did smell a cotton mouth several times. Cotton mouth moccasins have a very strong unmistakable odor. We did catch some remarkable bass. I used a black jitterbug almost exclusively & an Ambassador 5000 reel. I've had a lot of belly boats & at that time my belly boat was a Factory made Styrofoam affair. It was big & I never worried about air leaks. I bet it's been 40 years since I've seen another one.

Hello Andy. I'm sure the first belly boats were simply innertubes from a truck tire. My first store bought belly boat was a truck tube in a canvass covering. That was 1969. Later belly boats used vinyl tubes (or bladders) & nylon covers with pockets for lures & small totes. Propulsion was provided by paddles attached to your feet. Later, smaller versions of swim fins were used. My current belly boat has inflatable back & head rest. I've literally dropped my anchor & took a nap under a good shade tree. A belly boat is literally the best tool going for bluegill. I wouldn't put it in any water that held alligators. I've had a couple snakes try to crawl in with me a good slap with a rod discourages them. Belly boats are sold by most big fishing outlets. Try it, you'll like it.

This wasn't normal fishing, unless you consider a spear gun to be fishing tackle. Ignoring the buddy system, I went diving alone to do some spear fishing. When I was ready to go back in, I surfaced - and the fog had rolled in. I couldn't tell which way the shore was, it was like trying to look through a bottle of milk! Finally, I pulled down my wetsuit hood to uncover my ears, and swam towards the sound of waves on the rocks. It all ended well but until I thought of listening for the surf, I was concerned that I'd really gotten myself into a situation!
Now I'm too old for that kind of diving. If I dive any more it'll be in warm, clear water from a dive charter boat. I can't believe that I used to carry 80 pounds of gear a quarter of a mile, then try to fight my way into a wetsuit while I was all sweaty, and then fight my way out through the surf. That's for the guys who are still young and dumb and full of .....chum. And yeah, I've gotten seasick while I was diving. Not a good time or place to have to barf!

had a similar experience. Used to rent a house right on the beach a week each early fall. Well, the wife fall asleep around 9 pm or so it was time to do a little night fishing. Waded out pretty far on a sand bar, ocean was flat as a lake. Incoming tide. Well the fog rolled in and lost my bearings. Any direction I waded it got deeper. Oh s***. What now. Tide coming in. Well finally I heard a boat go by and the wake coming in told me which way to go. Waded through the trough and what a sight that dry sand was. Best beers I ever tasted back at the house!!

Hi Andy. I forgot to mention that a seat is sewn In. Accessories such as rod holders are available & very handy. I use a floating fish basket. I lost a whole stringer of bluegill once & I'll never do that again. Some pilgrams wear chest waders. I wear my bluejeans or cutoffs. Belly boating is just plain enjoyable.

I'm with Kerry, too many crazy escapades including falling in a whitewater river and trying to tread water for a few hundred yards . Never dropped my rod!

I have a friend who was in a mechanized infantry unit. He has a photo of him and a friend using an M16 as a carry pole with several very large carp hanging off it. They did some fishing in the delta with a metal version of a Dupont lure while on patrol. Apparently, carp suck even when used to supplement rations.

Me and a buddy growing up crawled under a fence sprint across open area about 200’ climb down the bank in an out cove area where the power station outlet ties in the river. Big cats every cast we kept 7 fish had a total of 120 lbs climbed out in a shaded area from house master. Look toward the parking area game wardens. We had to lie in the shadows till everyone left then waited some more. We took off running for the fence hit the ditch crawled back under fence. Got the fish luckily no game warden waiting only one other car in the lot. Thought we got away clean. Haha next day we had broke out in little itchy bumps. We had been laying in poison ivy ooohhh. What a lesson to learn when u r young and dumb.

Teenagers Me and a friend found a small bass pond on private land we snuck into in broad daylight. The bass weren’t very big but they would hit a #3 Mepps spinner like crazy. Second time in there got chased by the landowner, had to crawl thru dry grass and thick brush to get away. Well that brush was poison oak!
Prior to that had not been susceptible to getting it, but crawling thru that stuff when ur hot and sweaty sure made us break out!

What does MWR stand for? I went out of Monterey several times on a Special Services Boat. Just an FYI: There is a MWR boat operating out of Seward Alaska, if you get up that way.

Some may think it crazy to hike in 4 miles to a beautiful high mountain lake to catch trout, then have to hike 4 miles back out.
But the fish are good size and willing to rise to dry flies. Hope I can continue to make this hike for some time.
