Going fishing for cats for the first time and looking for any secret baits yall might have. Im going to try chicken livers but i was also curious on whether actual raw chicken livers work best or the packaged stuff made for bait.
Try 41-50 count raw shrimp laced with garlic overnight, and garlic earthworms. At the local lake here, those seem to be the most productive. I’ve had limited luck with chicken livers, and have had to employ the “egg drop knot” to keep those pliable livers on the hook...

Cut bait or live fish are my favorite, how many chicken livers do you recon those catfish see floating around in the water?
I was thinking the same thing but all i could find on the internet was chicken livers chicken breast and hot dogs so i figured i would go with the stankiest one. Theres really bot any places to get bait where i am so it looks like im stuck with livers. Gonna dunk them in some dip and glow garlic dye and hope for the best.
My buddy owns the largest pay lake here in Southern Indiana. His customers have their best luck with strawberry flavored chicken. He even makes it up and sells it at the bait shop. Granted they are fishing for farm raised channel cats.
Worth a try. Like another post said, live or cut bait is good also but probably for flat head catfish.
I think his mixture involves strawberry cool aid.
Good luck!!
Get fresh never frozen chicken livers they will hang on a single hook just fine just don't whip the cast.
Cast gently.
Vienna sausages with garlic powder and black cherry kool aid powder concentrate...soak over night n cast gently..go get em !
I have also heard of people using spam.
I’m not a catfish fisherman even though I live within a mile from the Ohio River
from a long skinny Blue Cat ....
Come on man .....get out there...
Sweet!!!
Ever try an electric filet knife??
Makes all the difference in the world for me!!
Granddaughter ate 5 bass filets last night.
She is 6.
Can’t get 10 year old grandson to eat fish. Lol
I've tried vienna sausage & can't get it to stay on hook. weiners are good catfish bait or polish sausage. Corn for Carp & shrimp for turtles.
