There is no correct way to do it. It's whatever you're comfortable with. Nobody's gonna be laughing at you. They would be if you turned you spinning reel upside down and put it on top of your rod. I'm sure the pros would tell you the same thing. Be comfortable with whatever you pick. I have a slx dc - pretty nice reel for the money.

Paul, you just gave the best advice and the one I took home with me. I hadn’t fished in 40 years and Paul took the time to hit the American River with me.
Me asking questions about “do I use a leader, a swivel, slider sinker or……” you get the idea. Paul gave some great advice as to those smaller tips and tricks but….. the best advice was “go out and try different stuff. There is no one hard and fast rule and no one is going to laugh at you”. Might have been my biggest fear.
Thanks Spirit!

I have a few Shimano Curados LH for sale. They are older and used but in great condition if you are interested.

I have two of the shimano curado dc’s. You will like them. I cast right handed, put the reel in my left hand and reel with my right. Some think that is a waste of motion. But holding the rod left handed leaves your dominant hand free to drink, smoke, net, steer, paddle, eat, or reel in the big one.

Yeah, I guess we can turn them upside down and crank em backwards…😜🐟on

Or get a special new boat seat to stand on head when fishing.

The backbone of casting rod is opposite of spinning rod. They are intentionally made that way when they are wrapped. So when you fish with them the proper way the strongest part of rod is utilized.

You need one of the baseball helmets that has can holders and tubing for the liquid to be tapped to your mouth. One less thing to do with spare hand.

Thanks Jeremy. I have one of those auto fishers also. Spring loaded, get a bite and it hauls the fish in. I can use both hands. Really, I use it to catch baitfish.

Having been a spin fisherman for years when I went to a baitcaster I went with a lefty. I cast with my right arm so it just made sense.

Same.👍
