Those are the Meriden Cops, right? I'm a Legion guy in Marlborough, but have been to Meriden a few times over the last 50. I'm a Meriden native, but moved like a gypsy ( is it OK to say that ? ) and made many acquaintances and friends around central and southern Ct over the years.
Spent mid 1969 till early 70 @ USMC's Beaufort Air Station and the bassin' around that area was outstanding. Didn't get off base as much and for as many hours as I would have liked, but that's the Corp. Caught my lifetime personal best as a farm Pond invitee in Monk's Corner SC, nearby. Yankees were not too popular in those days, but I have a way of getting along with almost anybody. Never fished salt water down there though it was right there, didn't have my tackle for that.
Now for Hanover Pond, I fish it almost exclusively for carp, just for the thrill of large fish on medium light rods. They run pretty large there, but not as huge as Connecticut River or Lake Pogatipaug. Can't spell that one on even my best day.
I bring several oversized reels, to check drag functions. If they work well I slap em on to my medium heavy rods for Pike duty. Decent bass have been caught there, and loads of panfish and at night, one of the better bullhead ponds in the area. I fish for anything ! Only had a boat on it once, to watch fireworks with G F for Independence Day. Didn't fish, but never had so many mosquito bites like that in Ct. before or after. Plenty of parking when I last went on Oregon Road side for shore fishing, and decent launch on Hanover road side near Legion.
Nice little Italian restaurant just back from Red Bridge : Avanti's. Good chow and my favorite, Frozen beer mugs.
Over and Out for now.
