Does anyone know how to prevent hands from smelling like fish when fishing?
I've heard dainty pink lady gloves work the best. Just use some decent soap AFTER fishing.
I go to Harbor Freight and buy the 5 mil gloves. I throw them away if they become holed or when done fishing. They quite often have sales on them.
OMG! I agree....maybe you should reconsider fishing! If you scrub your hands with hot water and soap, your hands will smell like the pearly gates!
Seriously. Wash your hands good and then fill up a basin or in the sink. Add Hydrogen peroxide ,vinegar, and baking soda. Soak for a few minutes. Your hands will smell like a new born fawn!
Years ago, I was in "free" Hong Kong with a friend visiting his family. We went on a road tour of New Territories and stopped to eat late afternoon. Of course, with the meal, we were served tea. I noticed no one was drinking the tea. We had several kinds of seafood at dinner, much of which was eaten by hand. Our hands stank. I was going to drink some tea when my friend said it was not for drinking. At the end of the meal, everyone started dipping their hands in the tea which caused me to ask why. I was told it was to remove the fish smell from our hands. It worked. I still dip my fingers in the tea when eating out in Chinese restaurants if I've eaten any fish by hand. Try it.
Myself and alot of fishermen in Marathon Fl. take a small bucket of water and clorox (just a few oz. to a gal. of water) and rense their hands
with it. It kills germs and smell. It also kills fish poisoning.
Well, back to the dentist. I don't have an answer for preventing fish smell but carry a tube of mint flavored toothpaste to wash the smell away. I've never actually used squid of any kind for bait but i have used herring & octopus & after a couple days in the boat they get really ripe. I have had to go for a second cleaning but mint toothpaste works just fine. I don't know what you're trying to catch but I wish you a boat load of luck.
Go to the dollar store and stock up on shaving cream. Barbasol works great
Get a stainless steel soap . They sell them at Walmart’s groceries stores there meant to get the smell of onions and garlic off there shaped like a small bar of soap just rub wet hands with it and rinse no smell at the end of the day. I used them for salt and fresh water I catfish in fresh water with some nasty baits sometimes works like a charm. Only answer you need I promise. Lemon juice and winded will work but seem to lose Vite frequency when I used those but maybe that was just me .
Or, move north; things don't smell too badly in the Columbia. In the interim, try any of the citrus hand cleaners, that dissolve oily (and other, presumably) residues, and leave my hands baby-bottom soft.

While fishing...no. After fishing try hydrogen peroxide and sodium bicarb ( baking soda). Gets rid of many smells but I've never tried it on squid. Dunno...worth a try.
No touch fishy things, no stinky fingers! Fish grabbers, hook removers and touch bait with needle nose pliers! When there is a will, we will find a way? Gotta neutralize goo in finger nails with lemon juice/acid stuff!
I wash off fish smell AFTER fishing with toothpaste...works great!
Take lemon wedges with you, rub lemon juice on your hands - no more fish smell.
