Papa, Sorry you are right. The small smelt I see in frozen bags at the market and here in surf in upper northern Calif. Folks here net them and fry them. Not sure I really tasted the bigger Jack Smelt. Have caught one from the pier but don't recall it's taste. They fight pretty good though for it's size.

I agree. I love catching jack smelt on very light gear. They do fight great. That being said, I have not even found them to be good cut or crab bait, so I just throw them back.

They sure have a lot of muscle on them and very little fat. Very firm solid fish maybe muscle has less flavor than fat?

Leopard and sand shark taste good. Caught Blue shark but never eaten.

You do not want to eat blue sharks, trust me. Like bapabear said, you don't want to eat sharks that urinate through their skin, and blue sharks are probably the worst. I have caught many and wouldn't feed to my worst enemy.

They are a lot of fun to catch, just make something else for dinner, Bluelake.

It’s hard to beat a crabmeat stuffed flounder for a fantastic dinner !
Lately, I’ve been hearing that the Snakehead is supposed to be excellent also, but haven’t had the cahones to try it yet, but I saw filets of snakeheads for sale at Wegmans supermarket, but they called it by another more appetizing name ; bay cod or some such name .

most sharks urinate thru there skin, that is why it smells like the old wet diaper. LOL. The Thresher, Mako, Greatwhite, and there is one more but i can't think of it right now, all have uranary tracks, and do not pee thru the skin, and r good to eat, and do not smell bad

Porbeagle is probably the other.
