My favorite would have to be triggerfishin salt water, with flounder seabass and striper coming in real close. The worst fish I ever ate was Boston mackerel. Oily , 10 times worse than bluefish. Great for bait though.

trigger fish absolutely wonderful

In salt water I’ll take sea bass, if I had ever caught a haddock that would be my #1 pick. Freshwater, definitely crappies and gills. I think walleye are over rated but don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy them.

Bk, I have to agree on the sea bass. Did not catch it but store bought Chilean sea bass was very good. Looked it up it is a Antarctic or Patagonian toothfish.

Hard to beat fresh caught crappies, walleyes, bluegills and perch out of clean water. I have had some great Northern Pike filets in a restaurant, too, but I did not catch them so they can’t be counted.
I have not caught and eaten any saltwater fish, so the halibut and grouper I love don’t count, either.
I live in the land of fish frys, so I can get walleyes, gills and perch twice a week (if I choose). I have yet to see crappies on a menu.

OJ, had pike in a restaurant also. Excellent!

When ive caught Bonito ,was taught to bleed them and put them on ice as quickly as possible, makes excellent Ceviche.

I can't think of a fish I don't like. Hate oysters if that sort of counts. It's seafood. Majority of fish I've eaten are fresh water and they are all good. I'd say my favorite is smoked salmon. Give me a slab of that and I'm happy all day.

Jar, heard that also to bleed immediately after catching. Love Ceviche. Good points.

We have seen similar posts several times. After looking at the responses, the primary factor is how the fish is treated before preparation along with how it is prepared. The next factor is what kind of fish you are able to get. Finally what quality of water it comes out of. As far as actual taste, the two main factors seem to be oiliness and water quality. A lot of people clearly don't like oily fish. So far, I have not found a carp that was prepared properly but I am still open. Lets face it. Two fish of the same species can be outstanding or impalitable.
