I had taken a guy from work and his young son on a rental boat on a beautiful lake. After a hour of fishing he had already jugged down 7 beers. He was getting more impatient not catching any fish. At the end of the day he had finished his case of 24 beers and still not caught anything and was nasty to his poor son most of the day.

That’s a horrible thing to happen blue. What an ass.
I started Crappie fishing with a guy who was looking for a fishing partner about two months ago. I’ve been out with him four times and each time we’ve spent a couple of hours fishing, after it’s hotter than hell, and the rest of the time I’m sitting there watching him looking for bottom structure and plotting courses on his new
I’m pretty burned out. Maybe it’ll be better after it cools off.🤞

A neighbor invited me to go along on a charter boat with him n four guys from his worj. He knew the captain very well. Well enough to let Butch run boat while he was getting things ready on way to anchor point. Cap told us if anybody had any dope they best not bring it on his boat. We started at 7am. Found fish shortly after noon. Nonstop action. One ahole out of us was drunk by that time. We landed over 30 fish in less than 2hrs. This fool got none. Everytime someone caught one he wanted that spot. He never knew how close he got to being chum that day. Told Butch on the way home I'd never go again if he invited that guy. He said the guy kinda invited himself. We never got to go again. He had a heart attack later that year. Captains at least the good ones have alot of responsibility. 👍👍

I never had much problem with alcohol on my own boat or on lodge boats that did not allow hard liquor on the boat. If someone started to get intoxicated, I informed him and the rest of the guests, that we were going in unless he/she cut off the drinking. In most cases he was part of a party so his buddies shut him off. In a few cases, I got off work early. It was made known that intoxication would not be tolerated for safety reasons as part of the registration and an early return to the dock for intoxication was not grounds for a refund. I also did not allow smoking inside the cabin. That rule was never an issue in 15 years with over 100 trips per year. Clients just went outside. I did work one summer for a lodge that allowed hard liquor on the boat. The outfit catered to corporate groups. Based on over heard comments half the people did not even like fishing, but they had little choice as the big boss liked fishing better than golf. Excessive drinking by 10:oo a.m. was a serious problem. That was a long summer with a lot of conflict. Never again.

Thankfully I have never had that problem. My son is my main fishing partner. Most of the time he has front deck duty ( troll motor, etc.) He never complains , or gripes ( unless it’s about the wind, lol) A few other guys that get in my boat are properly vetted first. No alchohol, no smoking, no jealousy or acting butt- hurt . My boat, my rules...... Years ago, there was a guy that had a show called the Lonestar Sportsmen. It was a hunting / fishing show sponsored by lonestar beer. I think his name was Jim, but not sure. But at the end of his show he would always say “ don’t leave your good manners at home “. Good advice.....My 2cents.

I don't go fishing or hunting to listen to people having a bad time. It's what you decide to make of it. I've had three guys from the stage come hunting with me here in Idaho. Two of them got elk and one didn't. One went fishing a little and we didn't catch anything but I think we had a fun time. One guy that got a bull elk was worn plum out but he had a blast. The other guy brought his son and they both had bull elk tags. We got one nice bull and spent a week sight seeing and they loved the trip. These guys are all welcome back🤙

I feel the same as long as someone doesn’t complain and is a good sport even if we don’t have any luck wether hunting or fishing they can comeback anytime in my books

Used to have a once a year fishing trip with 2 long time friends. We all met in a location we picked on the previous years trip. It sometimes require some travel. I asked my friends if I could bring another friend this particular year. I asked the gentleman if he would like to go, on an all-expense paid fishing weekend. He, of course, was excited to come. Upon arrival he said he was very afraid of the woods, the water, the boat, the weather and my other two long time friends. (both of whom are professional in their respective fields.) He was afraid of the hotel and to stay in the room by himself. He was afraid there may be wild animals. He paced and wrang his hands and worked himself up into a veritable nervous frenzy. When finally calmed him down he said he missed his wife and his kids but had no cell service in the area. We finally had to bring him in, drive into town and let him call his wife. After speaking with her for some time we returned to the water. After about an hour out he asked me when we were going to leave for home. He watched the clock and asked frequently when we would be leaving. After this dellow ruined our entire trip and after coming in just to stop him from whining, I drove twelve straight hours just to get rid of him. By the way I drove twelve straight hours because he was afraid of highway driving and did not think he could travel in all that "traffic". Needless to say that was the end of any new "friends" on our future trips.

13 years old,and my uncle asked me to teach his bosses 17year old to fish. The pier they were working on was southern California some where 1975. At end of pier at the time seemed like half a mile out. I hook in to a sting ray bout two feet across. Uncle shows up just as I'm figuring how to get it up,were about 25 feet off water.he gaffs it flops it to the wooden pier & walks off. I start to cut wings off & chum with the body. This kid stops me,says we must throw it back!

Some people are so stupid if you had thrown it back I wouldn’t have lasted very long even if the sharks didn’t get it because wit can’t swim as silly as it sounds for a fish to drown it would have because the water would have gone into its gills and wouldn’t have been able to come out

Wow - that is quite a story bluelake2!

I will consider myself lucky. The only fishing partner I ever had that bugged me in the slightest is a guy that INSISTED on staying until HE caught the last fish . . . almost pout if you were catching more fish than him. Nonetheless, he is a good fisherman, and I did enjoy fishing with him - but he was my least favorite. I have fished with some great people in my life.

I did take a teaching job in central Minnesota for my first job. The veteran teacher who's wrestling coach job I took invited me to go on the Minnesota fishing opener with him my first spring there. I was honored and of course said yes right away. I was shocked when he laid down the ground rules for me . . . 1) NO SMOKING in his boat - really not a concern for me as I didn't smoke, but he apparently had a guy one time burn some spots on the carpet floor of his walleye boat while smoking . . . thus the reason for rule #1. 2) NO DRINKING in his boat. He socially drank, and so did I, but this didn't bother me in the least - I rarely would drink in the boat . . . it just wasn't something that was modeled for me as a kid. - I never learned the reason for rule #2, but it also must have been something bad that happened with someone else. I was pleased that he continued to invite me to go in my time there - I must not have bugged him too much.

Fishing is a great place to really get to know someone . . . sorry to hear you got to know the bad side of someone, and also sorry for his son - alcoholism is a son of a gun!

What is the longest time a weather system has prevented you from effectively fishing your best areas?

I've been lucky. I went on a head boat with a friend and told him to drop his line over the side with the rod tip pointing at the water. "As soon as it hits bottom, lock the reel and lift the rod to even with the side of the boat." He did and I did and we started catching fish as the boat drifted. The Captain said, "Up Lines" and moved to another spot. Same thing we are catching fish and the Captain says Up Lines. Got to another spot and we started catching fish again. "Up Lines". One of the Mates said, "Captain these 2 are nailing fish." "Yeah, but no one else is."
Everyone else was letting their lines drag bottom and covering their bait. Ours was above the bottom and the fish could see our bait. LOL
One other time wass Head Boat fishing and this guy started coming down the side saying, "Excuse me". The trird time he did that he yelled, "Who cut my line?". LOL someone cut it before i could.
