Hey guys. The last 2 posts I've made from my fishin trips I've gotten flack bout keepin fish and killin all the fish I'm throwin back. Seems like I can't win. If I keep any I'm bad. If I throw any back, they're just goin to die so I'm bad. Maybe I should just not post anything anymore and that way nobody knows what I'm doin and I don't have to be called out all the time.
I thought the theme of this site was to talk about fishin and share pics of fish caught and other nature photos.
If you can't catch fish, that's not my fault. Come look me up and I'll take you fishin. I've offered that ever since I joined this site and I've fished with 15 different members from the stage. If you ask ANY of them I really don't think they would tell you that I wasn't an ethical sportsman.
I don't take more than my limit ever. I never keep undersized OR fish I consider too big to keep.
Some of the bass I catch do not survive BUT the Eagles and Osprey usually appreciate them very much.
Stripers on the other hand are SO hardy and strong it takes a lot to kill one of them and we practice catch and release on nearly ALL of them.
Case in point. Today we caught 70+ fish in 2 hours and we kept 4. That's bout 5%. That means we released over 95% of the fish we caught today. How is that not being a sportsman?
Guess I'll just keep quiet for awhile and mind my own business.
Sorry. Thanks for letting me rant I guess. Steve

Saw keep on fishing on! I am a hookum and cookum kind of guy but only take what we can use. One time took a full two limits two of us fishing cause was going to smoke them. This was on a different site I use to post on a lot most were happy for me but there was a few thought I had committed murder and blamed me for the reason why they never catch fish. Takes all kinds I guess.

Don't stop posting! You're a good Christian and ethical fisherman. Get or grow a thicker skin.
Fishing is having fun, or so I was told. You catch fish, more fun. Eat fish, stay heathy, and control the status of the species. EX: we have more deer here in the US than ever before, yet we have more animals being taken. The license we buy to hunt or fish, gives us the right to eat what we LEGALLY harvested, if we so desire. I have given fish to some people that was so happy to have fresh fish. That makes my heart glow. So maybe those that criticize should try that sometimes, it might make you a happier person. Because it sure sounds like you are not happy.

In some waters catch and release of some specie should be practiced and other waters with too many of a specie that have no forage and are stunted the opposite is true ! THE DNR could post some info on this along with their size limits ! Some DNR send out a fishing report on various waters and could mention lakes over populated and remove catch and size limits for a specified time period , this would save killing off the whole lake and restocking as I have seen done in the past here in Iowa ! Keeping enough fish for a family meal is your right , but keeping a limit to give away to some one that could go catch their own just to show you can bring home the bacon might get a sideways glance from some folks .

Steve please do not stop posting! In my opinion you are a great fisherman and a wonderful human being. I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I donβt think they should be able to affect your life. I catch and release almost everything I catch unless Iβm with someone that wants to keep them for dinner. It would be an honor to have the chance to go fishing with you. As many others have said, keep doing what youβre doing. I love to hear about, and see pictures from your fishing trips.
I solved that problem by practicing fillet and release. Can't go wrong.
Saw I'm so sorry that there are those out there that don't know about fishing and accuse people of things that has NO truth in it. I like when you and others share your fishing times and pics of your fish. Hang in there. ππππ

Saw, please donβt stop posting. You are NOT doing anything wrong or unethical, you set an example for all to follow as is being expressed by many of your fellow fisherman on this site who are posting in support of you. Donβt let someone with a skewed and narrow view of this site and your outstanding fishing acumen get you down. We all fully support you!

I hunt, and practice the 'shoot and release' program.
