Skin So Soft and other lotions make an oil slick hard for buggies to stand.

100% Deet does work well but fish will stay away from your lures if any deet at all is detected.

An excess amount of Vitamin B complex will come out of your poors turning those bugs away from biting. Vitamin B will give you more energy too.

Original dryer sheets rubbed over helps but deer can smell it also.

To cure after the bite, use an antihistamine like benidrhyl or zertec.

The salt, mud or anything that dries will help pull some of the agents back out of the top layers of your system.

Came inside early yesterday afternoon and my left arm was itching with multiple small lumps all the way to my shoulder. Have never seen it this bad. Used cortisone cream last night and still itching this morning. What's a good deterrent for them, I'm open to almost anything.

Could it be seed ticks ? The first stage of ticks, right after they come out of the egg?

no, these are definitely gnats, everyone around the area is getting them , they hang around outside the doors waiting for an opportunity to get inside

For knats, try unsented Skin So Soft, Ronnie. Used to use it in the marina for the marsh knats.

I've had good luck with skin so soft as well. Even kept the greenheads off when I worked on my boat in a salt marsh. Other than that Deep Woods Off, sprayed on my clothes.

You are probably talking about buffalo gnats. First saw them in Illinois a couple of years ago and not on every lake.
It's strange. They are brutal and can take down a cow. Cutter's or Off doesn't work. The only thing that works on them is "Buggins". There are different color bottles but get the green and white labelled one. You have to reapply more than other sprays but it keeps them off you.

Take 2 tabs of an OTC antihistamine (allergy med). Your choice of brands. Stops the itching and will prevent lumps and redness. Doesn't prevent the bites, but stops your body from reacting to the venom. Four hours later take 2 more. I take two tabs before I go out as well.

One of our neighbors covered with bites and kids too. They went to dermatologist who told them it was oak leaf mite bites. Apparently they feed on cicada eggs and we had plenty of those. I got chewed up in the yard and thought was good ole chiggers. Antihistamine tablet kept me from scratching myself to death. Don’t know about the mites, but might be!

I've had them flying around at night. When I have the bites I wash the area and put some cortisone 10 on them. Relieves the itch for a while but it takes several days to heal

Deet is usually applied to keep ticks off. Calamine lotion may help to dry up the bites.

OK hang up a long sleeve shirt and spray the shirt with either Repel or Cutters Deep Wood spray. Same for the pants and socks. The Deet is in the Cloth not on you. Works good even for Horse Flys when the clothes are totally wet with sweat. Learned that trick in the Mountains in Arizona. Pants and socks stop the ticks also. Repel 15% Deet Cutters 15% deet. Any higher Deet and you do NOT want to put it on your skin just the clothes.
