I'm having a bad time with these blood sucking pests, are they around your area ?
Came inside early yesterday afternoon and my left arm was itching with multiple small lumps all the way to my shoulder. Have never seen it this bad. Used cortisone cream last night and still itching this morning. What's a good deterrent for them, I'm open to almost anything.

Muskol , Repel, Ben’s or Coleman’s 100% DEET formula

If you're talking about deer flies I'm not sure anything will stop them

No, these are gnats and other small bities. They hone in on me and overnight the lumps blow up.

Not sure if gnats bite, they just annoy the heck out of you. I use a Thermacell, not crazy about spraying Deet on my skin. Around the water we have something called no-seeums, they come out at dusk and will eat you up and nothing will stop them

I bought some stuff from Amazon, when it first appeared, and was cheap. The stuff is non deet, smells like lemon, citrus, and the bugs don't like it, none of them do! It's called 'Bug Soother' I believe that is how it is spelled. still can't beat the 'Thermacell'

These do bite, had several inside and had no lumps or anything through the day but in the morning found some. Could see them flying around in the night inside. Put out a container of detergent, apple cider vinegar and sugar to attract and destroy them

Yeah, those Thermacells are worth the money

They're attracted to the sugary smell and go to drink, the detergent being slippery keeps them from getting out and they drown

So far, I haven't been bitten by a no-see-um or a mosquito this year, yet. But the flies have been terrible, of course, when the neighbor spreads shi1, it doesn't help to control the flies. For the no-see-ums, we use a locally made buggings that really works, but we haven't had any around.

New hatch skeeters are the worst here, very small and hard to see. They attack my feet and drive me crazy..........I'm in flip flop country and rarely wear shoes

Alcohol, Kills worms and other "No See Ums"
If they are really bad go straight to the Moonshine.

If you don't drink, take a saltwater bath ASAP after the bies have occurred.

BD

PS. I have also used Deep Woods

For knats, try unsented Skin So Soft, Ronnie. Used to use it in the marina for the marsh knats.

Sounds like me - some days I feel
like a 'bug magnet' - I could be
with a half-dozen people and
those nasty little buggers will
home in on me about two to three times more than anyone else !
I read somewhere that a lot of
that is due to blood type and/or
diet - carbon dioxide from your
breath attracts them initially,
but then something in your system may be more attractive to them
than someone else's ! Those sprays with 100% DEET may be effective,
but they make ME sick - there are other repellents out there with
natural ingredients (like
eucalyptus oil) that may be more
user-friendly !

When we were kids, after a trip
to the beach and a good swim session, itches or rashes caused
by bug bites, poison ivy, etc. would clear up and heal almost overnight from the salt and minerals in the seawater - maybe a good soak in
salty water would help alleviate the itch - it can't hurt !
