So your reel listed as one of the more responsible priced light weight casting reels, worth it?

Yes! I just got into bait casting reels about a year and a half ago. Been a spinning reel guy all my life. I bought a 4600 c3 Ambassadeur as my first and I got pretty good with it. Then I bought the bigger 5500 c3 Rocket and that is a totally different beast, but I got pretty good with it to. So I decided I wanted to try some "finesse" fishing with a bait caster, bought an ultralight rod and then the slx dc. After those other two, I don't think I could backlash it if I tried. It's exactly what I was looking for. Also, I don't fish for bass usually, I'm a trout guy.

Huh? I do. But not exclusively. I'm really bad at it. I have to be in a particularly masochistic selfdesctructive mood to go fly fishing.

Actually one of my favorite ways to trout fish is from a float tube on an alpine lake with my 3wt and a sinking line with woolybuggers. You don't really need to be any good at all to do that.

I can't fish that way.......only time I get on a float tube is during a drunkfest on a spring fed river dragging a cooler loaded with Coronas

Mine's not one of those donuts, I don't think I'd like that myself to fish from. Mine is a U shaped tube and it has a seat. Very comfortable fishing platform. I think.

Shows how little I know about float fishing

Very relaxing. I used to be able to get to some pretty remote lakes with it. Then you generally have the lake to yourself - just you and the birds.

Why would you do that?

Sinker i have a couple reels that have that feature. Remove sideplate has 12 pins 6 for start speed 6 for ending speed. I keep playing with mine till i ened up with 11 of the 12 turned off. It cast very well.

I would move to a 1/4 oz or 3/8 oz and see if that helps.

people say 3/16 is too light for a bait caster but i fish a tournament every monday night using a 3/16 texas rig and sometimes i will throw a weightless senko on a baitcaster no need for a spinning reel.

Think I'm getting this now. I have 20lb mono on and I'll move up to 1/4 oz bullet weight

First thing you can do and will help with casting distance is switch to braided line!! That will help right up front, then just put on a mono/floro leader for your senco or Texas and I’ll bet you’ll get more distance. I use Braided line now on Almost all of my setups and it casts farther than mono ever did, and that is true for both casting or spinning setups

Might be the rod itself. The action could be to heavy. But when fishing really light gear. I go to my spinning rod

My baitcaster doesn't seem to get much distance. I usually fish with a texas rig, Senco or craw, 4ot wide gap hook and 3/16 bullet weight. Iv adjusted the tension knob. Tried fine tuning with the dial in brakes on the left side and still not much distance. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What baitcaster are you using?
I use Lews and Shimano Curado reels and most of the time throw them with a 1/8 oz tungsten weight.

I’d say if you’re gonna use that light weight you need to use a spinning reel. I don’t know anyone that can cast very far with a 3/16th weight. Maybe you can try a 1/4th oz. weight.
