My baitcaster doesn't seem to get much distance. I usually fish with a texas rig, Senco or craw, 4ot wide gap hook and 3/16 bullet weight. Iv adjusted the tension knob. Tried fine tuning with the dial in brakes on the left side and still not much distance. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

3/16 ounce is a little light for most baitcasters. What are the specs on your rod and reel?

I know my bait casting rods have difficulty with 3/16 ounce. For anything less the 1/4 ounce I will usually use a spinning rod and reel.

Is the problem due to operator error or bad product just saying because it seems like there is a lot of different types of individuals having the same problem can’t be all operational problem

Yup, or spend $400+ on a “finesse” baitcast

I suspect it's a user problem

I would make the transition to spinning when the weights got real light on the lures/jigs I wanted to use. 3/16oz would fall into the spinning category for me. I could cast 1/4oz with a slower rod with/or a soft tip. Lighter line will help also but then the rod/reel combination starts to become something specifically for lightweight presentations. Back in the day Woo Daves was a spinning specialist and I have numerous rigs because of his accomplishments. I ended up using bait casters for heavier presentations mostly. Spinning for 1/16 to 3/16 and drop shotting etc.

What size line are you using. And what type rod and reel? As other folks have said on here 3/16 oz is awfully light for your average bait caster. I have a Shimano SLX DC mounted on an ultralight casting rod (that I paid way too much money for). The reel has 6 pound fluoro on it, and that set up will throw a 1/10 oz kastmaster a good long ways.
I'd say on an "average" bait caster, wind the spool tension down to nothing and release your brakes entirely. That's the best you're gonna get. But you better be damn good at thumbin that thing or you're gonna be livin in backlash city instead of Glendora.

So your reel listed as one of the more responsible priced light weight casting reels, worth it?

Ok, I figured too light. I'm new to baitcasters. Its an Abu Garcia 7ft Medium heavy...6.4:1 gear ratio...3/8 - 3/4 oz lure. 10-20 lb line. Does this help
