My wife and I are downsizing and moving to the Round Rock, Texas and into an independent living apartment. We are selling our three-bedroom townhouse in Houston in August. So, it is obvious I am forced to severely reduce my possessions, which includes some of my firearms.
I thought first that I would simply wait until the National Rifle Association held the annual conference here September 3 thru 5th at the George Brown Convention Center, take what I want to dispose of and sell them there, but then I thought some of my friends on the Fishing Forum might be interested.
Here is what I plan to sell:
1. Smith and Wesson Model 27 .357 Pistol w/ 8 3/8 bbl. Serial #N1090xx $800
2. Springfield 1878 Trapdoor Rifle .45-70 Serial # 2311xx $800
3. M-1 Garand, Mfg. by Winchester .30-06, Serial # 13770xx $1,200
4. Colt Replica .44 Cal blk pdr. w/ Brass Trigger guard Serial 539xxx $ 250
5. Colt Walker Replica .44 Cal, blk pdr, Serial #A463xx $ 250
All of these weapons are in shooting condition, and I have fired them, except the two black powder Colt replicas, I have never gotten into black powder shooting, nor bought the supplies.
If you might have an interest in one or more of these weapons, send me a private message. I can send a photograph of any or all. Just Sayin….RJS

Sure do wish that I were in "better money $hape"... Our family "lost" the M-1 Garrand to house thieves, back in the late 1960's... Always kinda wanted to "replace" it... I hope you get top dollar, for the possessions that you are needing to part with. Good luck with it all!
Yes, Able Man: If this down-sizing wasn't necessary, and absolutely so, I would not even think of selling it. But I am of an age that I don't hunt any more, nor do much shooting, especially with a rifle. I'd love to hog hunt, since from what I read Texas is being overrun with wild hogs and need to thin them out all over. I wish I were younger and able, I even know folks where I could help shoot some of these hogs, but I am no longer able. Just Sayin....RJS

Yeah, Mr Robert; I sure know what it feels like, to feel COMPELLED to part with items, a person just always figured: "Well, THAT'LL last me 'til I die"... Then; circumstances arise among which a man has to "RE-prioritize" the whole concept of: "¿What's most important?"... Much like what I've been "pecking away at" trying to make sure that I only have what I actually NEED, without "all the window-dressing". ... While at the same time, trying to be sure that I'm not parting with items that I will WISH that I had, in the future. It's a balancing act.

Good morning RJS,
I would have been interested in your M1 Garand but I just got a Springfield M1. Mine was made in 1957 and was the last batch of M1s built by Springfield.

I also lost 11 firearms from a brake in in the early '70s. I have yet to get over it. I'm sorry for your loss on your M1.

Yeah, I still have the "whole incident" seem to "cross my mind" every now and then... I was just a kid, then... The most distressing aspect of the ¡2 TIMES! that we were burglarized; was the loss of that Enfield, that my Grand-Daddy carried during "Mexican Border Duty", then walked across France with the same weapon, during the late 19- TEENS!!! (,30-06)

Wow that must have hurt. That one would have a real keepsake with a story to pass on to all fourth coming generations.
I do have a question on the caliber, you say it was a 30-06 not a 30-03?
I have a 7x57 Mauser model 93.
Date of production is 1894. I'm not a collector but I really like to shoot older firearms.

I'm 99.9999% sure that it was, in fact; a .30-06... (It's been over 50 years, and a whole lotta brain-cells ago...)

Brain cells?? I forgot what we were talking about??
Your probably correct on the .06
But if dated pre 1906 it would have been a 30-03. No real difference. Sorry again for your loss.
The M-1 Garand is a .30-06, Winchester quite making them near the end of WW II.
The Springfield Trapdoor is .45-70 single shot rifle.
I bought the M-1 from the NRA and waited about a year in order to get one made by Winchester,
since I believed it was a top manufacturer of rifles at the time. Another one was Springfield, but
i favored Winchester. just Sayin...RJS
You may want to check firearms regulations on crossing state lines on firearms purchases.
I believe it is supposed to go thru FFL dealer. Otherwise both parties are liable for any and all laws applicable
If transferred to California it need to go through a FFL dealer for sure. Not sure about other states or same state transfers but anything's better CA. Just getting ammo is difficult without a real ID.

Searching around a bit, on this interweb; I am relatively certain, that "my Grand-Daddy's rifle" would have been the M1917 (the pictures SURE do look familiar)... It also is a certain memory of mine, that the caliber WAS .30-06... I'm guessing that it would have been brand new, in 1917, when they would have issued it to him, for "Mexican Border Duty"... Like I'd said: "It grew legs"... Oh well.

So,,, NOT the M1 Garrand, I'd initially made mention of, but, an M1917. (I'm guessing that my neighbor in Cleveland, 40-ish years ago, had made mention of "the Garrand"; and that somehow got tangled up in my mind.)
