Yesterday was wonderful.
Went catfishing with my friend. Caught 12 pounds of fish. YIPPEE
Experimented with a toad I caught for use as bait. 4# channel cat was caught on a 1/2 toad under a slipcork 12' deep. The toad was extremely durable having been pulled through bull rushes twice before being eaten by the cat and was still solid on the hook when removed from the catfish. Guts were still inside.
2 blue cats caught on cut shad.
WH. Gereat job girl. You're showing the boys some new baits. We don't know if we don't try new stuff. I'm still looking for a roadkill snake. If it works n it's free why not. Glad you've been doing so well n having fun doing it. Have a nice day stay safe πππ£π£πΊπΈπΊπΈ

Thanks Grizzly. I have a great mentor. He doesn't always know he is teaching me. For him it is conversation...for me it is classroom. Gonna try bull snake today. You'll find live snakes laying on backroads at night. Not always but sometimes
You could make your own roadkill. LMAO.

I'm sure you're fun to be around n fish with π. I think you have more snakes in Texas. Although i have encountered many copperheads n a few rattlesnake. My biggest worry here is ticks. Pa is bad for them. Your enthusiasm for fishing n learning is awesome. Keep hookn em. πππ£π£πΊπΈπΊπΈ

as I said when you 1st asked about toads as bait tried toads didn't catch anything apparently just me have lots of toads in yard will try again
Grizzly have you ever used permethrin? You can get it at Walmart. Get the big bottle. Itβs over by the mosquito spray. Spray it on your clothes, socks and boots and let it dry before putting them on. Itβs good for 5-6 washes and definitely keeps the ticks off.

Hi Rut yes i have brother. I use to bow hunt alot. Many warm days. I spray my gear tape pant legs. I'd pick my spot then clean all dead leaves n brush away. Not only did it help with ticks i had quite ground to move around on. Didn't use a tree stand on public ground. The stuff works. πππΊπΈπΊπΈ
WH them are some nice channels and good eating too. Iβve never tried using a toad to catch a toad of a fish, it must work. Good job!
Grizzly do you still bow hunt? I still bow hunt but switch to a crossbow last year. Iβll be 73 this year and still got that deep seeded need for that adrenaline rush you can only get when you get a buck or doe in front of ya or rattle one in on a dead run! Then wonder how your going to get rid of the antlers and grab your bow when the buck is 12 yards in front of ya, stopped and looking for a fight. Itβs hard to impossible to beat an adrenaline rush like that!
Grizzly I did pull that one off. When the big 10 pointer looked the other way I hung up the antlers on my right side and grabbed my bow on my left. It caught some movement and went behind a bunch of brush but I could see his legs. It stayed there for 10 minutes then headed back the way it came in. A grunt and snort wheeze brought it back behind that same spot. It stayed there for 30 minutes then a repeat of leaving and calling him back to the same spot again. A few minutes later it starts moving towards my kill zone. I go to full draw and he stops and I have to let down. As soon as I do it starts to move, I go back to full draw, the buck is now at 20 yards. I softly grunt and stop the buck and let the arrow fly and it jumps the string. A complete miss! Man that was one exciting 45-50 minutes! 4 days later I rattle an 8 pointer in on a dead run and it stops behind that same bunch of brush. It stays there for a couple of minutes then moves into the same spot that the 10 pointer was and my arrow zips through it, a perfect double lunger.
