Would you guys and gals think a pole saw with the saw part cut off work as a push pole. Its telescoping and fiber glass. I could put an end on it so its like a push pole.

What kind of river / creek bottoms are you up against? Also what craft are you pushing?

How is fiberglass with lightening? Just a thought.

Fiberglass might not be conductive but being wet it will be.

Forgot to mention fiberglass splinters are much worse than wood.

Have you ever had fiber optics splinter? Talk about a B to get out.

Never got one of those Plum. Ran a lot of fiber from the controll rooms to the PCR,s and ECR,s. But we were required to where gloves. Have got some fiberglass splinters before.

Good to hear that Gordon. That glass sure is slippery using tweezers especially with blood on it.

If it breaks it would have been trash anyway.

I made one using a 20 ft piece of 1" pvc pipe You can find it that long at plumbing stores. I then forced a 3/4" dowel rod in to stiffen it. Worked pretty good but found cutting it down to 12' was optimal, I put a t coupling on each end and extended the "foot" on one end to 4" and 1" on the "handle" side. This makes an end for mud/soft bottom and one for hard bottom. I'm still using it and will probably make another for my other boat that I'm putting together now.

What schedule PVC did you use hunter? I think schedule 40 might be brittle in colder waters. Good idea with the dowel rod was that 20' or 12' as well?

I had to get 2 dowels couldn't find 'em in 20' lengths-besides-they were a b--tch to get in, it was a tight fit. I did use sched 40 in white, don't have to worry about real cold water in FL. One thing-this does not make a pole like fiber,it is not as stiff-but it works well.

Sorry hunter i didn't see where you are fishing. Yes that 40 schedule will work just find. I can imagine the dowel was a Capital " B " getting it in.

Would a 1/2" electrical conduit work? Or would that still be considered a lightning rod even though it would be in cased in plastic?

Hi Hunter. I'm glad to see your post. I thought i was the only one that did that. Keeps the weught down n pvc won't bend enough to hurt it. I have a hook i can attach for get lures outa trees or hang ups. Ask Plum. I have a thing for pvc duct tape shrink tubes n zip ties. My pond boat is 10 ft not enough room for 20'er πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

yes there would be a chance of electrical connectivity, and it also weighs a bit more, along with sinking if you lose your grip, the wood dowel provides a tiny bit of flotation.
