Hacksaw, I also quit on cat's, but with switching to an electric knife, filleting and skinning cats is no different than any other fish. Cleaning is no longer an issue. Even cutting off the red meat is a snap. Being the coward that I am, I bought a SS wire cutters. I now clip the three barbed fins at the same time I remove the hook on any cat I plan to keep. It makes life a lot easier and only takes a few seconds as you are holding the fish anyway to remove or cut the line on your hook.. Just be sure to get rid of the barb's where they will not hurt you. I found this procedure also helps in disposing of the heads as I no longer have fin holes in the garbage bag or my hands.

I've been using wire cutters for the same thing for years, it has saved lots of stabs, when I cut the barbs off they go back in the water

I went to our park lake this morning. I needed the alone time. I got a few bites but it was slower than me trying to get out of bed. The temp was 85 at 0700. About 10 oโclock I finally got a good bite and the short fight was on. It was a catfish which is what I figured it was. I stayed until noon, but nothing. The temp was 98 degrees and I was physically whipped. Anyway, hereโs a picture of the only critter I caught, then released.

That would have Been Too Hot for me Hack, so you did great staying out there. And you got to bring in a CF, so you did good.

That's what I was going to suggest Jwid. Just don't go too far where they will hang up in the weeds.
They do sell a stinger hook setup, but that's asking for more snags.
Opened the hooks up a bit. No hook lickers this time. Caught weeds a bit more. If I catch a bass easier Iโll deal with the weeds. If I get another miss they are going back tight. The weeds got away from us this year. Need to lower this winter. In the meantime its top water fishing from the dock this year. Guess Iโm headed to BassPro. Any weedless suggestions for worse case weeds, and algae.

I don't know Jwid, pointy frogs (as opposed to popping frogs) have been my go to in the thick slop. Z-Man has come out with a sealed one that doesn't take on water. That may help keep it on top of the salad.I haven't tried them yet.
The other alternative is punching through the surface mats with a heavy jig or punch bait. That really works better from the boat, not as well dragging it back to the dock.
There are a couple mice/rats designed just like frogs.
Are you allowed to get in the water and manually clear out some of the weeds?
The older I get the hotter it feels... the weather I mean. Kudos for staying out there and not getting skunked.

I know you guys can get pretty hot
in Texas; out here in Arizona (where
the whole summer is scorching hot), we're told constantly to be sure to hydrate frequently and adequately - they recommend a gallon of water
per person, per day, minimum !
When/if I choose to fish on hot days,
I try to be on the water by sun-up and
packed up/off the water by 9:00 AM
or 90ยฐ, whichever comes first ! I'll try to head north for the 'Rim' lakes whenever possible, as it's usually about 20ยฐ cooler up there, allowing more fishing time !
