I was having a great day landing and releasing some decent LM, when this beauty hit. Fat, about 10 inches, .84 lbs. I was amazed by the coloring.
Caught on a Wacky rigged 3" piece of Flick Shake, watermelon red flake.

Nice. Hardest pulling fish around when they do the sideways pull

Thanks for the info Fire. That's interesting. I've been catching big ones like that in the Connecticut river in the section between Hinsdale and Brattleboro. Attached is a Bluegill I caught last fall with my hand as a guide. That was maybe the biggest one I've ever caught - definitely the biggest I've caught in the Connecticut. Have you noticed that they always look bigger on the hook rather than when you pull them out of the ice chest? Enjoy the summer.

Harry,

That is a big fish, the other one isn't too shabby either.

I never throw fish into an ice chest, they go back into the water. Except when ice fishing, a few yellow perch are left on the ice for the Baldys.

I keep just enough for Marilyn and I to make a meal. I like Fish & Chips so fresh fried fish, especially if I was able to catch enough for a meal makes it even better. Take care.

I use to catch a dozen large bluegill (none that large) fillet the backstraps and flour and pan fry in butter. They were the best tasting fish.

Yes they are. There is a Mexican restaurant near the house that serves up a pan friend Tilapia, complete with a head and eyes. When you are finished eating it, it looks like one of those cartoon fish skeletons that Top Cat used to dig out of the garbage can, but it is very good. Bluegill cooked like that would be even better.
