Caught my 1st ever bass today, not including stripers. Also my 1st fish this year. 14" Largemouth on Texas rig Yum Dinger. Only fish for the day, fished for about 3 hours. Beautiful, peaceful day, sunny and 80.

Very nice catch Yankeeblue! I remember my first also, and I wish it was a great looking bass . I might not still be paying for the catch! đŸ˜‚đŸ˜„

Thanks guys for the response and congrats. It really is a hoot, I'm having fun making the transition to fresh water as I have been a salt guy for 65+ years . It is so different but really the same. Bottom line, I really enjoy the time outside on or by the water. The peaceful and serene time can't be beat. Warm weather is starting, I hope everyone can get out and enjoy it.

Good for you Yankee. Im in Norwalk Ct near the sound. I enjoy the solitude of freshwater myself. It’s a lot easier to “hide.” Thanks for sharing the location. There’s a lot of great freshwater fishing in Ct All within 1.5 hours at the most....or in your backyard. The state has a book of most of the premier freshwater fishing in Ct. that even measured the density of the fish.

The Lakes and Ponds book Mau? That's the one I've got. Has nice topo maps in it also, but remember the fish size and density info is over 20yrs old. 1st printing was 2002. The electrofishing surveys were done from '88 to '95. Still an excellent resource book to help find new areas and get a lay of the land before going to a new place.

You’re right again Fred. Time flies. It’s old news as far as species and size, maybe boat ramps but might be useful with locations.
My son just bought a house in Norwalk with a fairly large, 12 acre pond, (not all his just his frontage) 2-4 feet deep. Fed by a stream, It has mud that will swallow you up if you’re not careful. Packed with pickerel. But what blew my mind is—it has beavers, which were unheard of in Norwalk. He fights with them over the dam. If they build it too high he loses his back yard. Nature sure has changed a lot in 20 years.
