I live on the Texas Gulf Coast. I'm considering a new (used) to me boat. I want something that will run in shallow water. We have lots of that here. Looking for suggestions from people that actually have one of these skinny water boats. I am considering Flats Cat, or something along that line, but I don't know all the different brands out there. All help welcomed. Thanks.

jwald, have you considered a kayak? A lot of good advice on yaks here on the stage.

I don't know a thing about em, but what about a drift boat? Easily maneuvered and very shallow draft. Based on the old fishing dories and whale boats that used to (?) ship out of New England.

Research tunnel hulls. They are designed for shallow water and drifting flats and marshes.

You need to talk to Brownsville Tony, he switched to a tunnel hull for the same reason. Look him up on the members list.

My choice was a Gulf Coast 21 ft vari-side craft. There are several made in and around Houston. One in made down in the Rio Grande Valley, and I cannot recall the name.

Due to the vast amount of oyster reefs and other shallow water, you are wise to have a very shallow rig for the Gulf Coast. This time of the year is not the best time to be in the marke to buy one, but good luck! Just Sayin...RJS

Yes I know about the oyster reefs. I have a 1982 Ski Barge. It's not that the boat drafts too much but the motor skeg hits all the reefs. Its not a tunnel hull. Can't get the motor high enough. My next boat is either going to be a tunnel hull or a catamaran style. Just looking for input on the different brands out there.

Yes I have.
I have a Native Watercraft Titan 12. Peddle drive. I like it a lot, but sometimes the wife just wants to go fish, and the grandkids and nephews and sons. They don't fit in the Yak. Need a new boat. My old Ski Barge is not tunnel hull and the motor finds all the reefs and sandbars.

Sounds like a jack plate is in order.

I just bought this yesterday it's called a Coleman Crawdad boat it weighs a whopping hundred and nine lb and it came with the three-speed trolling motor 44 in wide but as skinny as you can get
