If you notice the shell crackers or redear have a yellow color just in front of their belly and the bluegill have a orange color. Just saying.

In Missouri we have an abundance of bluegill, red ear, and sunfish. All very similar and located together. They seem to have a lot of mix breading going on. There are a lot of hybrids. Bluegill becomes a generic name. Never heard of bream before landing here on the Stage.

My dad always called them bream, but the kids I fished with always called them perch so that’s what I called them. Here’s what I got from Encyclopedia of life and Wikipedia:

Bream are species of freshwater and marine fish belonging to a variety of genera including Abramis, Acanthopagrus, Argyrops, Blicca, Brama, Chilotilapia, Etelis, Lepomis, Gymnocranius, Lethrinus, Nemipterus, Pharyngochromis, Rhabdosargus, Scolopsis, or Serranochromis. Wikipedia

Mass: Gilt-head bream: 21 lbs, Common bream: 7.3 lbs, Bluegill: 2.6 lbs, Acanthopagrus butcheri: 4.9 lbs, Redear sunfish: 4.3 oz, Yellowfin bream: 5.5 lbs, Green sunfish: 1.2 lbs, Redbreast sunfish: 1 lb, More Encyclopedia of Life

Yes, it WAS good! That's also the species that makes the most popular "Friday Fish Fries" around Cleveland. (At least, in years gone by... Ain't BEEN to a "Friday Fish Fry" in several years, now.)

Bluegill, in Arizona hotter then H@#!! in the summer time right now is the prime time April May time. Lake is long maybe 20 or so miles from end to end probably longer but a lot of river run you do not need to run. I had a guide that was good but Jim is no longer with us you can call the Bass Tackle Master (928)854-2277 they should have all the information on guides that are available now. I will be there this coming weekend for a striper derby if I can get limit early will be looking for the redear's. Plus lot's of place's to stay at if you do come out let me know maybe we can team up on the redear's...
