Never a good idea, but I've been guilty and lucky as well. No mishaps!

Love it! From now on when I see one I’ll ask them if they fish.

I feel you Betts. Last year a Striper flipped on me and treble hook went in my finger and came out just under just short of the nail. Striper still attached to the 2nd treble on the lure wiggling and wanting away from me. No cutters on the yak and paddling wasn't an option. Blood dripping into the occasional shark waters and the yak as well.

So man, up pull that sucker out with the barb in the wrong direction. Wrapped with snot rag, paddled home and put cutters in the yak. Oh the lessons we learn from pain.

Had a treble jammed into my hand .below the thumb with fish (LM bass)still hooked also. Hook barb would not rotate enough to emerge form the flesh ( mine ), due to hook size & depth of penetration.
Eventually got the fish free and released it. Had cutting pliers but no help in this case. Went to a nearby clinic and a P A gave me some gauze to bite down on and gave it a couple of yanks and out it came. Pretty painful.
Needed booster shot and cash b/4 I was outta there.
I’ll bet that bass is still chuckling over my dilemma.

Trout fishing Big Creek above Pine Flat reservoir in California. Tossed a black Mepps across the creek and it hung up on a tree branch. Pulled on it pretty hard and it flew back and hit the left side of my neck burying one hook in my neck. Using left side mirror on my car to view my neck pushed the hook through the skin and cut barb tip off. Really lucky it missed the jugular vein.

You are a true candidate for a knot tool, skip all that thought of inhaling and actually tieing good knots.Just sayin, tight lines in your future. 👍

Okay, I read all three pages of answers and stories. My answer is NO and /&$% NO. Lots of close calls and punctures, but nothing I had to thread through. Stay safe you crazy bunch of Stagers.

no but I have had a treble hook impaled in my lip which is a story for a different time but that may be why I would never put a lure or hook in my moth for any reason and also why I usually use barbless hooks now

Never had a hook past the barb, until last year. Im 72 . My buddy and I were night fishing for walleye
I netted his fishgot hold of it and it flopped. 1 trebble in the fish, 1 in the net,, and one hook in the edge of my thumb nail òf my right hand. Took me half hour to get it all untangled. Worked the hook out of my thumb with needle nose pliars cleaned it off best i could, went back to fishing. My buddy's wife is a medical transcriptionist for our hospital, she wanted to know how long we were at the emergency room getting it cut out. She had typed up 100's of reports of kooks being removed, she thought surgery was the only to get them out. I've taken hooks out of a lot of people and from experence it worked out good for me. Had blood every where that night. Keep fishing.

I worked with a bio-med who swallowed the screw on needle part of a syringe while trying to repair another hospital gadget, thankfully he was in the hospital and got an exray quickly and knew the doctor that removed it quickly, he was embaressed and got ribbed a lot at Christmas parties for a few years, so in short it does happen, be careful out there.......

Lessons to be learned:
1.Use your zipper pull or a D ring on your jacket, PFD or vest…instead of your mouth
2.Always wear glasses of some sort (sunglasses or safety) to protect your eyes

Right on, thanks. That is a great idea for keeping hooks away from extremities as well as other body parts; which I will definitely put to use in the future. I have also started using barbless hooks mentioned by an earlier post. Easier to remove and have yet to loose a fish
