I was told they usually jump off the hook before you can land them, so landing this one was a good catch.
Well Congratulations Kat, nice looking fish. Built like a Torpedo and I’ll bet it can Cruze. No wonder they usually jump off the hook.
Yes it is a ladyfish. They call it the poor man’s tarpon. They are a blast to catch, as you now know. Nobody eats them but besides the fun on light tackle they are good bait for redfish, drum, sharks, grouper, etc when chunked up or offered whole.

yes that is indeed a ladyfish! and as you noted they are great fighters and have been called the poor man's tarpon as they fight and jump ( and get off the hook) much like tarpon. I have heard that some people eat them (not me) but their real value is as bait. They are chunked up and can be used to fish for tarpon, snook, redfish , sharks.
Either way they are fun to catch and frustrating when they do spit the hook.
Great species to get kids hooked on fishing
It is a Ladyfish. They are commonly found in saltwater and are part of the Tarpon family. They are easy to catch and extremely acrobatic but easy to lose as they have very soft mouths.

I’m told not good to eat, just good to catch.
Not good to eat because they have a zillion bones in them.
It is a Lady Fish, related to a tarpon.
