Fortunately we don't have that problem with our cardinals. Likely they're are a lot of them in your area and they are trying to fight off the competition. I assume it is the males causing the problem.

I looked it up and What does a cardinal see in a car mirror?
When a cardinal happens to see its reflection in your window or car mirror, it’s seeing another bird in its territory–and that’s not allowed. The bird will continuously attack until the other bird goes away.
this is that time of year when they are very territorial - seeking mates as well as nesting sites. They see themselves and think it is a rival.
An I thought I had it bad. Two bluebirds nesting in a tree near the driveway like to perch on my truck mirrors an do their daily business😡

We don’t really have a problem with birds until spring comes then when the farmer plant or you have a garden then comes the black birds

They are the male Cardinal that think there is another male in their area. The cardinals are very territorial. I and my wife have been going thru that for the last 3 or 4 years. What makes me maddest is they poop on the mirror then smear it with their feet.

So true and it’s not good to leave it up there for later because it will destroy your paint
