Well another post got me thinking - (yes it hurt) about peoples nicknames and how they came about. Care to share yours?

In my younger, herb clouded years, mine was FTH. Let's see if you can figure it out.

I don't know how many "nicknames" I've had... Way back in grade-school, (and once in my late 30's) some decided to start calling me by my middle name.

I've told this story before on here, but it's been a while so here goes.

Spirit of 27 is in honor of my MIL. Unlike a lot of guys, I got along very well with mine. Now when she was a little girl she lived in the Cooper Carlton Hotel in Chicago. Her father managed the restaurant and they lived in one of the suites. She was not normally allowed to eat in the restaurant, but one morning her father brought her in and gave her a baseball. Happens that the Cooper Carlton was the hotel that visiting baseball teams stayed at when they traveled to Chicago to play the White Sox and Cubs. And happens that that day in 1927 the New York Yankees were in town and they were (most of em) seated for breakfast. Yep. THOSE 1927 New York Yankees. Murderer's Row. Babe Ruth. Lou Gehrig. To name two. For some reason there were Washington Senators there also. Tris Speaker. Walter Johnson. She took the ball around the dining room and got all their signatures. Jump forward about 60 years - she never had any kids of her own, my wife was an adopted child - and she wanted me to have that ball. I graciously accepted it as a gift. What a sweet lady. I miss her.

Youngster it was DIGGER. Everybody said I was always digging the hole deeper with everything bad I did - so the nickname DIGGER was given to me.

High school it was RUG by the buds. Whenever the buds found me I was usually covering a gal like a good rug would - hense the nick name. A few others also.

Just something my Dad called me when he would come to my football, baseball and softball games back in the day. The rest was just an interesting coincidence starting in the early 90s.
