Any past experiences with catching fish while it's raining? I wanted to go tomorrow but forecast says 40% mid morn and rising to 60% chance by 1pm

Welcome to the Stage JD. I've always had decent success before, and during moderate rain, at least during warm weather. It usually slows down at the end of the rainstorm, and pretty much dies after the storm. Usually the day after is very slow. So if it's warm enough for you, go for it. Just get off the water if there's lightning!!! Tight Lines

Warm temps here with the water temp in mid 60's so I reckon I'll give it a try

Gotta agree with that. Long as you can stay warm and dry, the fishing can be real good. Wind sucks if there's wind. And go home if there's lightning - that'll ruin your day no matter how good the fishin.

Lots of fresh bugs knocked into the water as the rain starts can fire up the fish. Good luck and be safe!

Only time you want to be out on the water when it's really nasty weather is if you're out for a trophy brown trout. The bigger the wind and rain, the more they seem to like it. And yeah OJ, I think it's because of bugs and worms, probably lizards and frogs, who knows what all. Maybe baby possums? I just know that if you can stand it out there, especially in the early evening or morning, and you throw something BIG, your chances of hooking into a 10 or more pounder improve dramatically.

For a 10 lb trout I'd stand on my head in the rain!

Rain don't matter to fish, they're already wet and don't care if you get wet. Caught plenty of fish in the rain just gotta dress for it.

I agree with all of the comments above. One of the things you need to remember about rain that gives you advantage is that it disturbs the surface of the water, so shadows and outlines are distorted. Fish are less apt to spook.

I don't care about rain, as long as I don't get a light show.

Anytime I can get on the water a couple of hours before it rains are my most productive times fishing. The bite doesn't disappear when the rain starts falling. That's why I keep a complete set of rain gear on my boat.

Dress for it so you stay warm and dry. IN the Northeast in the spring this can be a challenge. Thunderstorm, though go home. Your carbon fiber rod is a superb lightening rod.

That being said; the first thing that came up to the front of my mind; when I read the title of your 'thread'; was that old Hank Jr. song = "I'm For Love"... Hadda go listen to it. Hadn't heard it, in probably 34 or 35 years!!! (Thanks)
