Just about time to buy my 2021 fishing license. This is $25 I look forward to spending because it signals the start of another season of pure entertainment, and the end of ice fishing which without my camera would be as exciting as watching paint dry. I don't need to use ice fishing as an excuse to get away from my wife, I got a good one. The Ice was over 2' thick so I was ready for a nap after I got my 3 holes drilled in by hand. The middle hole is for my camera. I have no idea how many of these little Sunfish I caught , a lot! The Northern, Bass and Walleye have a full menu on Lake Minnetonka.
A camera is on my bucket list, for sure! Just want to prove my fish finder is LYING TO ME as I suspect it is 😂
I was watching videos of a guy trolling, it blows me away to see how fish look, follow, turn away, or grab, seems like a game changer for seeing when you need to change something up.
that's cool,thanks for sharing jemstone
Your fish finder is not misleading you, my guess is I didn't catch 2% of the fish that swam up to my bait, nipped at it and swam away. I use my camera in the summer by suspending it from a empty gallon milk jug at the edge of the weed bed and drop off. I try to cast near it to see if I see anything following my lures. It's not very easy and I am lucky to even see my lure. It works better to still fish with sucker minnows or fat heads near the camera, but when you see a fish hit the minnow your caught up in the moment catching the fish, rather than recording the catch. The CFish camera was the cheapest one I could find at $200.00. For another $200 or so you can by a colored camera, but I don't have $400.00 to through away on another toy. I wish I could post videos on here, some of them are really fun too.
I have considered one for many years as I thought the kids would be interested in learning what the fish are doing. I decided against it as I wanted them to appreciate Nature and the surroundings rather than watching more “TV”

One hole has a smelt/herring under a tipup. Another hole 5 feet away has a camera trained on it. Ever wonder how a pike can pull off 20 feet of line and you pull up two bare quick strike treble hooks? I watched a pike approach my herring; he nips the nose of the herring and shakes it violently dislodging the front treble. He could have done it again easily and dislodged the rear hook also. I had fishermen around my screen all day watching the interaction of pike, perch, and bass. they said it was more fun than the fishing. Did the same with grandkids. A perch would approach the worm; inhale it into its mouth without moving nor a bite being detected. The kids on the camera would yell "PULL". they caught one every time. Sure beats your grandkids staring at a dumbphone screen and not talking to you for hours!!

In case you're still "watching" this "thread", jemstone90; thank you so much, for posting this! (Now ya got ME thinking about how to "budget a camera" into my (somewhat meager) $upply.
Just wanted to say "Thanks" for all the positive responses this post received! The northern posted above is from 2018, but the ice pushing up the boat launch is from this weeks official ICE OUT on Lake Minnetonka. It will be a few more days before anyone will be able to use this boat launch. It's amazing what a 30-40 mile an hour wind will do.
