We've got gators down here in south central Texas. They never get aggresive, but that territorial growl can be an eye opener. Biggest one we've seen was about a 16'er.

I live in southeast Texas. I have fished many areas from my kayak with gators nearby for years. Never a problem. I have a sit on kayak, not a sit in model. My 2cents...
Most gators are not that aggressive if you leave them alone
You just said the magic word "most" gators aren't aggressive. My daddy always said it only takes 1. I'll fish with the copper headed rattle moccasins, the snapping turtles & alligator gar but I will exercise extreme social distancing with live gators. All our gators are in the extreme southeast part of the state & I will leave them alone.
Don’t worry about that here but had a buddy that’s from Missouri who got an alligator at the circus. It got too big to keep indoors so he put it in a pond behind his house. It was 4.5’ long and ate the neighbors dog. City dog catcher came and got the gator.
Plum I’m with ya. I’d be my luck a gator would grab my fish or me when getting the fish out of the water.
We had heard of the occasional gator sighting in NC while i lived there and i had only seen a 2 footer and figured moma was around somewhere. But for sure sharks were in our brackish water. Both were always on my mind whenever i would have my hands near my catch at water level.
