Good morning! An interesting exchange of information! I hope I to add to this topic...It is widely accepted in medical circles that within the insect world mosquitos are the #1 threat to humans. As we all know mosquitos are at minimum irritating, notwithstanding they can transmit serious diseases.
Much time and money has been dedicated to protecting the human population from these pesky little creatures. The American Mosquito Control Association recommends the use of DEET when traveling to areas of high mosquito infestation. Some people like myself have sought to find more natural remedies due to the chemicals used in DEET. Some research in the use of the vitamin b family as an insect repellant apparently is inconclusive. They are unable to answer the question, “why does it work for some people but not all?”
If vitamin B12 works for you use it... “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
However, I will offer suggestions that we may consider as alternatives for those of us who have found B12 ineffective on an individual basis.
There are naturally occurring scents that repel mosquitos. Here are a few suggested alternatives that are quite effective and user friendly:
Picaridin is an oil extract from the black pepper plant that is used in Avon Skin So Soft.
Lavender oil
Peppermint oil
Nepetalactone oil (catnip plant). Research indicates that this extracted oil may be 10 times more effective than DEET.
Eucalyptus oil
I use a DEET product designed for equipment only. I spray it on my boat and equipment bags. I use the Avon product on my person and sometimes the peppermint oil or eucalyptus oil...

You are exactly correct about all of those ingredients, one of my best friend's a Marine biologist and that carries him into places humans wouldn't normally wouldn't even WANT to go much less on purpose! We grew up together and as a matter of fact his father was the doctor that brought me into this world. My father kept his horse at their Farm with their horses and the first time I ever heard of Skin So Soft Buy Avon it was when he was spraying it on his animals to keep the Skeeters off! So what I just read that you posted is absolutely 100% correct on all ingredients listed! Thank you sir for the heads up! And may all of us fishermen stay above the water line! Thanks again for your input and the sound advice!, Randy

Absolutely I couldn't believe it myself until I saw something hanging out of the back of a hat while my stepfather was in his garden here in South Carolina where the mosquitoes are as big as hummingbirds when I asked my mother what the piece of paper was she said it's a dryer sheet and of course I said huh? She said that keeps the mosquitoes away! I said well that's dang sure cheaper than insect repellent but yep just rub it all over! And when I'm fishing I rub it on my face and have a sheet hanging out with the back of the Hat on the left side behind my left ear and another one on the right side behind my right ear try it what have you got to lose? Because I bet you got a couple dryer sheets right there in the house! And don't forget to rub it on the back of your neck and any exposed areas! Good luck warmest regards, Randy
