Never used braided line before, and also never did a Palomar knot before, So I was hoping to get my knots done a day or two in advance, so that I don't have to worry about fumbling around doing a knot at 4am on Saturday morning.

Would it okay to do my knots and get everything setup a day or two in advance? I know the line has to be wet for braided line for the knot, but I was thinking about not cutting the slack end and then tighing again on the morning of before cutting it.

Never used braided line before, and also never did... (show quote)

I use the uni knot personally.
(This guy is long winded but the info is good- also shows how a cinch knot will fail.) https://youtu.be/pw_bbEOT_34

If applied correctly it’s Never going to fail you. I use 65lb braid on all my rods(PowerPro 33400650500Y MaxCuatro Spectra HT Braided Fishing Line https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UW0WQA0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_wmyvDb4WC748K). I use barrel swivels and swivel clips that are rated over 120lbs. Dr.Fish Saltwater Fishing Rolling Swivel Solid Ring #3/0 220Lb Connector Terminal Tackle(Pack of 200) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075VPH96W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_kjyvDbPFQ8QZ1
I usually pre-make my leaders 10”-18” with 50lb fluorocarbon or mono tied using the uni knot to circle hooks anywhere from size 3/0 to 7/0.
Uni knot to swivel tied wet to make a slip then leader line to hook using uni knot, and the opposite end of the leader will have a loop tied to attach to the swivel. I think it’s called a double or improved surgeons knot. Have fun! Hope this helped.

It is very, very difficult to tie a polomer knot with braid line without having the line twist around on itself several times. Braid line should not be tied directly to anything; tie it to a mono or floro leader using a double uni knot.

You do not have to wet down braid line.

Only u.se a fluoro leader in extremely clear water. Most water I fish is stained. I use 15 pound Power Pro and catch anything from walleyes to panfish without a leader. My line has a smaller diameter than 4 pound mono. Is pretty much invisible in the water.

You can tie the knot a week ahead if ya want to it does not matter, u wet it just before you pull the knot tight just wet it with your mouth, its very simple. I use suffix braided line and its a dam good choice as braided lie is smaller in diameter and much stronger than any other line.

Two things-on the wraps, I do at least 5 for 8# and up and 6# on down 6 wraps. Always "wet" the knot before the final "tug tight". "Unwet" knots will build up a heated friction and be weak at the knot. Yes, knots do come undone if not wrapped enough or a sloppy "pull tight". Good luck.

A Palomar knot is about the easiest knot to tie. I can literally tie it with my eyes closed. I fish at night a lot and learned how to thread the bait in the dark after that tying the knot is easy. Learn and practice the knot and it will become something that you don't even have to think about. I personally have never had a regular Palomar fail me and so see no reason to do the improved version.

If you learn about three or four knots you will be set for just about any fishing need. I like the Palomar, The Triline knot, the Uni knots and a Surgeons knot or loop knot.

I think the simple answer to your original question is that yes, you can tie the knots any time before. You can use saliva to wet the knots when you tie them.

Go ahead get it ready won't hurt a thing. Palomar knot, best knot for all fishing line. Only knot I've used in 40 some years. And easy to tie. Proven to have the best breaking strength than most any knot. I personally have tested it many years ago.

Can you give me an example (picture, instruction, Web cute) for the fluorocarbon to braided knot?

I never heard of it and if fish can’t see it I want to use it

Thanks

I also prefer the Uni Knot for braided line. I have had Palomar Knots come undone with braid. And there is nothing wrong with tying your knots before heading out to fish. I do if I can! If you are using a leader use the Double Uni Knot. They are simple enough. Google them.

riblueuser,
Uni knot
I use a Uni to conect my Fluorocarbon leader directly to braid. A loop knot to artificial. Have caught Tarpon, Stripers, Snook, Jacks, Redfish, Trout and Bluefish. No metal terminal tackle needed. 20 lb Sufix 832 is very good braid for all of the above. Any 40 lb Fluorocarbon will work. Wet the knots before tightening. You're good to go...
