kokanee die for a red hook. No pun intended. Great red stinger hook with a gulp maggot. Kokanee give their life just to bite one. We catch 3 to 1 with red stingers over black. We put nearly 200 Kok’s in the ‘smoker’ every year for the past 5-6 years so they do work for me.

I’m right there with you my friend...200/300 kok’s per year on “reds”...do you brine or dry rub for smok’n

Funny! You ask about smaller hooks . I look at the picture and was surprised at what you consider smaller hooks. To me anything smaller than a # 18 fly tying hook is small. Those hooks in your picture are gargantuan.lol

I use bright red , orange and chartreuse thread to create hot spots on many of the flies I tie. Don't know if it makes a difference in numbers of takes but it sure makes for a pretty fly

But it is fun to tie a streamer or a stone fly on a #4 or 6. After tying 16 to 20 my eyes hurt

I agree with Ben they are Mosquito or Bait Holder Hooks. I prefer the wide gap thin wire by Gamekatsu.

I have no issue with Red hooks and have an assortment of both. I try to use whatever color no else is using as to provide a different look than all the other anglers.

Use I agree these are Mosquito hooks. I prefer Gamekatsu this wire wide gap bait holders. The thin wire seem to penetrate quickly on those soft bites.

Does anyone else hate red hooks ?
Nothing wrong with them per se
Just another of my many quirks

I love the red hooks, but make sure they are well made. The fish will strike at the hook without bait. These are fantastic.
