What kind of hooks are these smaller hooks, can I use them for whacky rigging?

Actually LOVE red hooks !
Retro-fit most of my lures with them, singles, as well as trebles.
Trout, steelhead and salmon all seem to like them, baited or as trailers. I also have some pink ones and some lime-green ones. Wedding Ring lures get bit twice as often when retro-fitted with colored hooks, my buddy and I did some "testing" just for fun. I even painted some hooks with various sparkly greens and blues that I will be trying this year.
Why not ? Innovative lures and customizing old stand-bys are one of the great joys of my fishing fanaticism when I am home instead of on the water....and a great rationalization of the time spent watching a movie or a whole rainy Saturday watching college basketball teams you really don't care about..... you should see the plethora of spoons and spinners that the OEM wouldn't recognize !

All of mine are red. The Kokanee love them...🐟on

I use a #6 circle hook for both wacky and nose hooking. You can go to a bigger size if you want. I will go smaller with a smaller, thinner worm.

Yeah, I've noticed skunks aren't too particularly fond of them either.

Those small barbless red hooks are the ones I like for salmon mooching.

What the hell is a “wacky rig”
Sorry I’m a trout guy. When I catch bass I’m pissed. It means I did something wrong with my fly presentation. Lol

Wacky rig without the weedless wire seems to work a lot better for me. Yes 1 or 1.0 is proper size. Been years since I fished the Connecticut river for shad, but thy seemed to like a gold hook with black and yellow beads

Agree red is wrong and that these are mighty big for wacky rigs. Larger hooks affect action of bait. Smaller straight thin hooks best.
70 yrs old been bass fishing since 7. Tried using red hooks when they first came out. Thought they might add flash? Wrong! Stopped using a year later. Probably still have 60 % of those I purchased.
Fishing is my thing. Strap my 19' tourney version Triton to my 4 Runner every spring and fall, pick up my fishing buddy in Paducah KY and head to ....... Texas, Alabama, Carolinas, Florida, Tennessee, etc
Have house on Lake Barkely!

I use the #2s like those smaller hooks for steelhead and shrimp under a bobber or for drifting egg clusters. I don’t know what the 4/0 are for.

Those are octopus hooks. I use those for wacky rigging Sencos. I get more hookups with a small octopus hook on a wacky rig than with the your larger J style worm hooks used for texas & carolina rigging. I also use rubber o-rings around the Senco. Those o-rings make my sencos last a lot longer which saves me a lot of money.

Red hooks are a fad that swept the sport 15-20 yrs ago. I spent one winter spreading split rings to install red trebles. Did they catch fish?? Absolutely, but no more than regular blue steel hooks.

Wanna hear about my Banjo Minnow season?

The small ones on the left are "octopus "style hooks with the eye bent away from the hook point. They will work fine for Wacky rigging, and will also work well for Dropshot rigs. The large ones on the right are 4/0 EWG Worm hooks.
As far as red goes, the jury is still out. The theory is they make your bait or lure look wounded. Some brands are even called "Bleeding Bait Hooks ". One of the Crankbait manufacturers is putting one on the belly hook of their lures. I forget which brand. I've caught fish on the smaller wacky size, and have a "Bleeding Bait "Strike King Buzzbait that works well. I picked up a box of #2or #4red trebles to try, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
