I had similar pain near inside of shoulder blade and up into neck from reeling but on the right side. Dr said straightening my shoulders back would help. So I got a cheap back posture strap type thing that pulls your shoulders back and straightens you up for about $15 on amazon that I wear when fish and it helps alot.

I used to fish all the time, like 3-4 days/week for 3-4 hours. Mostly wading in streams. I never had any type of pain or discomfort at all. I haven't been as much lately, maybe like 5x a year for the last few years.

I am experiencing shoulder discomfort/burning/pain after about an hour or so of casting. It's only in the left shoulder, which is the arm I reel with, and I only feel it when reeling. It gets to the point that I can barely keep reeling and really ruins fishing for me.

Any tips how to get past this? I really don't want to give up fishing. Maybe shoulder exercises? I don't know if it's just a muscle issue or something else

Go see your doctor. I was having pain in my left shoulder for about 3 years. Primary care visits I would complain to my Dr. Finally sent for an x-ray, showed nothing. Then to physical therapy, pain continues to get worse. Finally an MRI shows a toumor the size of an orange underneath my armpit. 4 MRI's later scheduled for surgery. Surgeon had to go in from the front of my shoulder because of ligaments, tendons, nerves an blood vessels behind and under the arm pit. Tumor was benign, no after effects so far after 9 months. Still haven't tested my shoulder by holding a rod and settin the hook. If that pain continues, make sure your drs do something about it. If they won't, find another doctor. Most of the pain I had came from fishing, settling a hook, the sudden motion was like a hammer hitting me. It May not necessarily wear and tear, good luck with this, prayers for you. Keep fishing. CBD stick, really helps me, you might give it a try. Solid rub on stick like your deodorant.

Switch to a right hand reel, avoid the cause of the problem.

That’s like saying switch to water - give up the whiskey.

It’s blue emu like the bird and it works. I use it in anything that hurts even my horribly arthritic foot that I finally had surgery on. I recommend it
