few years back we built a "thumper" . small device that we could throw over the side to send out a sound during slack tide. used to bring the bluefish close to the boat. had fun with it for most of the summer then a shark bit it off. wasn't worth the effort to make another one just for bluefish.

Yeah, walkinkatfish; I've seen video of ¿Asian Carp? or SOME kind of edibles, literally jumping INTO a guys boat, on a river SOMEWHERE, maybe ~1/2 dozen years ago. (Excited by the "motor noise"!!!)

There's a reason every Pro Bass fisherman has one of these in his boat.

LOL!!! That’s what I love about the “Stage”! That story reminds me of my Grandad that would fish the Pecos around Roswell, New Mexico... he’d catch cats when no one else could... of course they were alien fish...

I believe it was Pavlov who proved that animals responded to a repeated sound. I know that certain boat hull configurations will also bring up fish. I always make a nick on any spoon lure because it creates a buzz in the water (wounded fish) Jeez guys you bass fishermen use rattle traps...EH

I convinced my granddaughter that if she would tap a rhythm on her rod with her fingernails that the fish would hear that sound and lead them to her bait. She was 6 then now at 17 she'll hum a tune and tap her rod with her nails. Most times she out fishes me. Who knows!

KY BILLDAD

Hello, Fisher...this is my first post, too. I never had a chance to learn about communicating or making any kind of noise toward fish. My Dad would have skinned me alive for trying that! When the KY river was in pool, with little current, he would rent a rowboat from a farmer and row to a likely looking point or cove and tie up. Heaven help the son that banged something on the bottom of that boat. He had an old pair of rubber soled slippers he always put on before he got in the boat, while my brother and I had to wear gym shoes. We got good at whispering conversations. We also learned how to catch fish. Knock on a rock? Not with my Dad...I miss him everyday. Now I am a Grandpa who smiles every time a grandkid drops a sinker or talks too loud...heck with the fish if they can't take a joke.

Hello fellow fisherman. This is my first post and its a story about fishing on the Brazos river in Texas. My dad was a great fisherman. He was raised fishing the Brazos river, the first thing he did when he returned from War World 2 was grab all his fishing gear, some food and off he went to the Brazos. My aunt told me this after he had died. She said all his brothers and sisters were coming to see and love on him. That didn't matter to my dad because he didn't wait, he had to go fishing and I don't think I ever saw anyone that was fishing with him catch more than he. Anyway this is the tale I and my dad heard, "while fishing one day my dad and I came across an old man that lived on the river. My dad knew him so we showed him some big yellow cats we had caught. The old man said yes that's a nice catch. He said he always talks to big yellow's. I asked him what did he mean? He said before he fishes around big rocks jetting out over the river he, always takes a small rock about the size of his fist and knocks on the big rock. If they are there they will answer him. My dad and I the next day walked out on this huge rock with our handheld rocks and began tapping on the rock. After about a few minutes we put one ear under the water and sure enough, we could hear them yellow's croaking. I'm 71 the fisherofmen2 and I approve of this message.
