What kind of company do you guys typically keep when fly fishing?

When I started fly fishing, I ALWAYS went with buddies of mine. Rarely ever went solo. Granted we were almost out there every day... but after moving back to my home state, getting married, and just life in general, the number of friends I have to fish with is hovering around 2. And our schedules don’t often line up. I’ve conditioned myself into a lone wolf - I still love fly fishing as much if not more than I ever have, but I often find myself thinking of times past when I had other enthusiasts to share this great sport with. How do you guys fish? And what do you prefer?

When I started fly fishing, I ALWAYS went with bud... (show quote)

I have a lot of local fly fishing buddies, but we always go alone. Otherwise, we have to play hip-hop and who wants to do that? Fly fishing is a quiet sport!

I'd rather fish alone, we ice fish in groups most if the time just for safety, but there's times that's not possible. I like the peace and quiet. That way you can hear a fish fart and know where to go.

Agree with Egg on this, ice fishing is kind of a communal activity but if out on the stream, I prefer to be on my own. In a boat however, it’s nice to have a fishing buddy.

If I'm trout fishing I'm alone and wading, When I go out in the boat I like a partner but I fish alone mostly lost a couple partners to cancer along the way so it's harder to find someone who likes the late hours I keep when the weather warms.

Fly fishing is solo. In a boat it's really nice, as well as sensible, to have two. Don't do ice here, I'd need my walk on water shies for that. Grsndkids aside on all counts.

Look into local fly fishing clubs. Membership dues are generally inexpensive and they normally have programs and activities. Go to FFI or Fly Fishers International for a list of clubs, contact info, etc.

I agree with all the above...fly fishing is a “quite sport” and best done alone.
Not to say you can’t go with a buddy and compare notes when you get back to the car, like where did you fish, did you see anything coming off, did you catch any and what did you catch them on?

Yeah, you right, Sales rep! That'd be about the only way that I'd care to "have company", while fly fishing. (Far enough away from each other, to where we're not cutting the tips of our hooks off, to gettem out of one another's NECKS!!)

I prefer to fish alone. Otherwise it becomes a lot more work than fishing....🐟on
