And here I thought I have a new kind of trout and you guys have been catching them for years. Not as pretty as Calif. Golden Trout but close.

Went fishing at Lake McSwain Ca. today fishing really slow guy next to me caught this strange color rainbow trout. No its not a Golden Trout, red and orange anyone ever seen this before?

Here in NorCal, we call them Lightning Trout. Or if you catch them at Lake Amador, some anglers call them AmaGold for short :-) They are good eating, similar to the Mt Lassen Trout they breed and stock up here. Pink meat, almost like salmon. Much better tasting than regular rainbow trout :-)

Yep they call them Lightning trout, Pardee, Comanche and a few other lakes in Nor-cal have them. I dont think DFG raises them I know the Private Hatcheries that plant trout in some of the California Private lakes raise them and plant them with traditional colored rainbows. I have caught several outside of the color they are just another rainbow trout but orange in color, taste the same meat is the same. Nice fish!

It may have started as a mutation, but in California, they are raised and planted here. In So Cal many lakes now plant them usually as part of a mixed rainbow/lighting trout -25% stocking. Fishermen covet them and they seem to taste better than regular rainbows imo. Their meat is pinkish too and they fight well and will jump.

That is an albino trout. They are fairly common in Mirror Lake in the Uinta mountains here in Utah. Love to watch the eagles try to take them. Good eating pink to red flesh. Yummy with a side of home fries by the campfire in the evening

Go to Lakeamador.com and look at their video’s. They plant these regularly. I caught a 2 pounder a couple years ago !

Here in Idaho we call them Palomino, Banana, or Golden Trout.
