Uni for terminal and double uni for braid to leader. Never fails me.
I tie the San Diego Jam no matter the line for m using or type of lure or rig. Works great for me!
Palomar is my favorite for what you asked about.

Polamar knot to a snap swivel to get the best action out of the lure.
I’ve been using a slip knot since the early 60s and have never had it fail. I’ve hD lots of line breaks, but the knot always held. I use it to tie on lures, flies, swivels, and tie on a leader. It’s very simple and fast to tie. I don’t think there is any knot that’s easy to tie in the cold, but this one may help!

I'm certainly with you on the Nightcrawler book and bought it as soon as it
came out. Unfortunately, I loaned it out a few months later and never saw
it again -- but I had digested the contents, and it's helped my fishing ever since.

I’ll second that Palomar knot. Or double Palomar.
Iv'e heard more good things about the palomar knot then any other.
I bounced around from knot to knot until I found the trilene knot and now I use it exclusively. It works on all line types in all size line test and you do not have to loop the line over a lure or hook. If tied correctly it maintains above 95% line test strength. It’s a good knot to learn

Clinch, uni, double uni, loop knot. This covers it all for me fly fishing and conventional mono, braid and florocarbon

I have been using the Crawford knot for almost 50 years. I learned it from a book called Lunkers Love Nightcrawlers. That book changed my fishing life.
OJDIDIT.
Thanks for mentioning that book
Read it many years ago. I may have to try to find it again
Just learned the “San Diego” knot on last trip out. Very good knot.

I’ve been using this one as of late, but still do use the Trilene and double Trilene also.

“Every line has a different knot that works the best for it,” Grigsby says. His favorite knot for fluorocarbon line is one he calls a Double Pitzen. "It is a tremendous knot,” he says. “You can tie it single but tying it (doubling your line) gives you that extra strength.”Nov 3, 2017
