Fish like heck, catch fish.

Bass on the chick should be moving toward spawning flats, they won't be on them yet but they'll be getting close. Transition spots where bluffs turn to slopped banks leading to flats. The guts of drains leading into spawning flats. I've talked to a couple guys fishing there, they've been using A rigs close to the bottom and deep diving crank baits. A black and blue jig fished in deeper holes should get a few. Gonna be 60 here today but by Tuesday highs mid 40's so the fish will move closer to spawning flats today then back off some with the cooler weather, good luck.

Some very good Crappie fishing on the Chick, as well as pretty much all the Tennessee river impoundments. April is usually a good time to think about bedding Crappie but calendar dates aren't as important as water temp. between 65*-75* crappie will move into shallow water to spawn. normally in shallow pockets and bays with some cover weeds and brush. water temps. in the 50's they will move out of the deeper water winter hang outs and start their move deeper. In impoundments like the Chick find old creek channels and follow them back into shallow water. as temps. warm the Crappie will move shallower. when water temps. hit 60 I like to find causeways with weed lines and rock. these causeways make the Crappie school up to pass thru to shallower bedding flats. 65 to 75 will find them very shallow around structure. Remember Crappie can not look down without moving their bodies so keep your bait just above the depth you think they're in. From New Years to spring is a good time to troll small jigs, some days will find them as shallow as 2 ft over deeper water but they'll be close to the old creek channels. One day might find them 2 ft the next 20ft but they'll be close to the old creek or river channels and they'll follow them all the way back till the spawn. Crappie really think of 2 things eat and spawn, if their not doing one they'll be doing the other.

Thanks, Ivey; I'm hoping that at least some of that information will "stick in my head". ... Some sounds a bit familiar, already... Thank you.

No problem I didn't post mush about summer, after the spawn is over the crappie will use the same creek channels and drains to move back out to deeper spots and they turn to low light feeding, meaning mornings afternoon and cloudy days but I like beet the heat and night fish. I go to the same bridge I use before and anchor or tie up the the bridge. I've got LED light in the hull of my boat so I flick them on put out a few rods minnows and a cork and wait, They'll show up. The bait fish gather around the lights and the corks will drop. This is my favorite time for Crappie. all thru December they'll come to the light at night. I've seen the causeway lined with people, lanterns and rods September thru December.

Some very good Crappie fishing on the Chick, as we... (show quote)

Thanks for the information. I have passed by Chick and always wondered how it fished. Will give it a try and follow your advice.
