Do you use both of your motors while you're fishing? And if so why do you have two motors?

I looking to get a inflatable boat for me and my grandkids any suggestions for the safest one

Hi,

If you can go on Craigslist or Facebook market place and find a used Achilles or Avon in decent shape, you would be in a boat made of Hypalon, which is almost impervious to fishing hooks. These boats usually have a wooden floor and are very substantial and safe; they are my favorite kind of boat, and they may become yours as well! Good luck.

Princebabe, if you want to direct a question to someone's post, click on "quote reply", that way we know who you're addressing with your query.

Not directed at me, but the reason for two motors is that the gas one gets you to the far side or other end of the lake in reasonable time and then you troll or move around QUIETLY !!
Yeah, I know, you can troll with a gas motor, but for decades I have no idea why that's done. It's noisy, driving the fish away and certainly precludes any communication without shouting...... definitely not my idea of a pleasant outing.
Could you get by with JUST the trolling motor ? Sure, but hopefully you have a backup battery and never need to get back to shore in a hurry in case of an emergency, or a storm. My 285fpb is too small for both, but my 12' Livingston is set up with both, wouldn't have it any other way.

BTW... for those who DO think they can/should troll with their gas motor using a "trolling plate"....it should be noted that are rarely less than 2 on Craigslist, usually more like 5, and that's in our rather small community.... guessing that they don't actually work real well.

And those "motor ear muffs" don't do a damn thing towards making the motor quieter.........LOL...turns out they're for flushing the motor, silly me !

I use a Minkota 55# thrust and a low cost Garmin LCR on a group 24 battery. Can fish all day with no problems. The TR pushes my along at 4 mph which suits my needs. Course what’s with 4 rods/reels, tackle bag, 168# me and other assorted stuff I don’t need!

That's a bunch of bull. With my 12'6" Porta-Bote I get 3 bench seats. With the 14' boat you get 4 benches. Go to Porta-Bote.com pick the home site and hit the video button. You'll see some of the neat stuff this boat can do. Like fill the boat with 600 pounds of concrete and raise it 60' into the air than let the boat fall back into the water. The boat didn't sink or sustain any damage.
Porta-Bote.com, check it out.

Princebabe, if you want to direct a question to so... (show quote)

Thank you Foxfish,
Yes that was for you. I was just wondering why. I have a MotorGuide and it's quited but I can't go to far because I'm worrier about my battery not lasting to long. What do you think about the solar panels have you use them before?
